Datacomm Troubleshooting Procedure No.  5 

Probable Cause of File Transfer Error:  A "hung" port.

Correcting a hung port involves resetting the port through TERMDSM or
OPENVIEW and, then, resetting the modem.


CAUTION Verify that you are resetting the correct port and that no user currently owns the port. (Perform a showdev nnn, where nnn is the port number. You should see nnn AVAIL or nnn UNAVAIL SYS.) Any dialin session on that port will be aborted by a reset.
Resetting the Port for a Host-based DTC These procedures are illustrated in Figure E-2 , with user responses identified by the Shaded Text and Return. 1. Type sysdiag at the MPE (:) prompt and press Return. 2. Type termdsm at the DUI > prompt Return . 3. Type reset at the TERMDSM > prompt and press Return. 4. Type the port number and press Return. The port number format is: PO [DTC n],[SIC n],n where [DTC n] is the one digit DTC number, [SIC n] is the one digit card number, and n is the port number. 5. Type exit and press Return. Shaded text and Return represent user-supplied responses. 6. Power the modem off and on again. 7. Resetting the Port through TERMDSM If the error recurs when HP Predictive Support is run again, "dump" the port. Run TERMDSM again and follow the procedures shown below (these are illustrated in Figure E-3 ). * Type dump at the TERMDSM > prompt. * Type the modem port number and press Return . * Write down the file name of the dump file (for example, TRM345AA.PUB.SYS). * Exit TERMDSM. * Reset the modem (settings are provided in Appendix C) and resume normal HP Predictive Support scheduling. * If problems persist, contact the HP Response Center. "Dumping" a Port through TERMDSM Resetting the Port for a PC-Based DTC To reset the port on a PC-based DTC, log on to OPENVIEW and: 1. Click on the DTC. 2. Click "Control" and pull down. 3. Click on "Reset." 4. Click on the Predictive port. 5. Click on "OK." Attempt another file transfer. If this does not work, "Dump" the port, as follows: 1. Click on the DTC. 2. Click on "Control" and pull down. 3. Click on "Upload." 4. Click on the Predictive port. 5. Click on "OK."
NOTE Be sure to write down the name of the "dump file," as it may be needed by the HP Response Center when diagnosing the problem.
Resetting the Modem Port on a LAN console Card To reset the port on a LAN console card: 1. Log on as manager.sys 2. Type sysdiag 3. At the DUI> prompt, type consolan pdev=nnn sect=2(23) 4. After several messages, type y at the prompt, Do you wish to continue? (Y/N) 5. Type remote at the prompt, Which serial port do you wish to reset (local/remote) At the completion of the procedure, the system returns you to the DUI prompt. 6. At the DUI> prompt, type exit.
