HP Predictive Support User's Guide For HP 3000 Series 900
Phase 7: Running HP Predictive Support
Start the Run
Start or restart HP Predictive Support from the psconfig Main Menu or
interactively from MPE.
* From the psconfig Main Menu: Type 1 or run
OR
* From MPE: Type run psconfig.pred.sys;info="run"
NOTE Assuming that the Request before transfer field in psconfig remains
at "Yes," you must reply to requests sent to the system console.
CAUTION Make sure that the remote console is disabled before starting a
run. See "Phase 3: Configuring the Remote Console" on how to
disable the remote console. The first run of HP Predictive
Support may take longer than a typical run because log files
from as many as the preceding seven days may be analyzed. In
addition, the initial code word request may take several
minutes.
Monitor the Progress
NOTE If problems are encountered during the file transfer process, refer
to Appendix E, "Datacomm Troubleshooting Guide."
The first run occurs as follows:
* HP Predictive Support detects it does not have a code word.
When HP Predictive Support is run for the first time, it detects
that it is missing the code word. It generates a code word
request and transmits the request to the HP Response Center.
In the code word request are the system serial and model numbers,
the hardware ID, and the phone number of the customer contact.
* HP Response Center Receives and Processes the Code Word Request.
Upon receipt of the code word request, the HP Response Center
downloads the code word to HP Predictive Support.
* HP Predictive Support Receives Code Word and Resumes Its Run.
Upon receipt of the code word, HP Predictive Support analyzes the
customer system for the first time and generates an Action Summary
Report that lists any detected events.
* HP Predictive Support Finishes Its Run. Upon finishing its run,
HP Predictive Support generates and transmits to the HP Response
Center the PSDCFILE message confirming installation and the
versions of the rulesets.
NOTE Event messages from the first run are not sent to the HP Response
Center. The messages only appear in the Action Summary Report.
Figure 3-3 illustrates the progress messages typically displayed to the
console during the first run.
