100VG-AnyLAN Technology
The 100VG-AnyLAN technology architecture is consistent with the ISO/IEC and
IEEE architectural models, which separate the network functions into
sublayers. As illustrated in figure 2, 100VG-AnyLAN is composed of a Media
Access Control (MAC) sublayer, a Physical Medium Independent (PMI) sublayer,
and a Physical Medium Dependent (PMD) sublayer. The functions of each
sublayer are first described, followed by an example of the network data
flow for a 4-UTP 100VG-AnyLAN network.
