Cable Requirements for a 4-UTP 100VG-AnyLAN Network
The cabling medium required for 4-UTP 100VG-AnyLAN is 4-pair unshielded
twisted-pair cable-meeting the specifications of the EIA/TIA 568 standard
for 100-ohm category 3, 4, or 5 cable. The cabling may go through punch-down
blocks or patch panels in the wiring closet and connects to RJ-45 wall jacks
in the work area, or be terminated with RJ-45 plug connectors.
Figure 10 shows the EIA/TIA 568B pin assignments for an 8-pin RJ-45 plug,
the color code identification and the pair configurations for an 8-wire,
4-pair, UTP cable. (Although this document references the EIA/TIA 568B pair
and color code assignments, the EIA/TIA 568A standard may also be used as
long as the cabling is wired straight-through from the hub to the node.)
