HP CD Extensions for MPE/iX Installation and Administration Guide

Running HP CD extensions

This section shows you the process that occurs when you run HP CD
extensions on your PC. It also shows you the error messages that may
occur; refer to this section for basic information about each stage of
the process.

   * HPNETCD checks whether TCP is running on the PC.

If TCP is not running, the system displays the following error
       message:

            Network Subsystem error.

   * HPNETCD tries to connect to the host specified on its invocation
       line.

If HPNETCD cannot locate the host, the system displays the
       following error message:

            Error locating Host

   * HPNETCD establishes a socket connection with the host.

If HPNETCD cannot communicate with the host, the system displays
       the following error message:

            HP-3000 CDSERVER not responding,
            HPNETCD not loaded

   * At this stage in the process (after HPNETCD is loaded as a device
       driver), MSCDEX is invoked.

If HPNETCD was not loaded, MSCDEX displays the following error
       message:

            Device driver not found: 'HPNETCD'.
No valid CDROM device drivers selected

Once MSCDEX is loaded, the HP 3000 CD-ROM drive is available as a
       drive letter.

If there is no disk in the drive, the system displays the
       following error message:

            Drive not ready

       or a similar message.

Once MSCDEX is loaded, if you lose your network connection, the
system displays the following error message:

            Drive not ready

       or a similar message.

The network connection remains open whether or not you access the
CD. If you do not require continuous access to the disk, put the
HPNETCD and MSCDEX commands in a separate BAT file. To remove
HPNETCD and MSCDEX from memory, you must reboot your PC. MSCDEX
does not provide a graceful way to unload itself.

For a detailed explanation of the error messages described here, see
Appendix E .
