HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX

Using Resource Sharing in the Asian environment

The following procedures assume that you have completed the release and
Resource Sharing installation described earlier in this manual. Do not
follow the instructions in this section unless you are using Resource
Sharing in the Asian environment.

Check that the NLIO software is activated for shared printers using
NLIOUTIL. Refer to the MPE V Utilities Reference Manual for information
about NLIOUTIL.

Configure the APCTO3K Formatter

For shared printing from the Traditional or Simplified Chinese Vectra to
supported printers, a special formatter is required to convert data
between the PC and the HP 3000. If you are using Resource Sharing in
this environment, configure the APCTO3K Formatter.

In addition to the printers listed below, local printers may be supported
by each country. Consult your local Hewlett-Packard representative for
more information.

   *   HP C1200A

   *   HP C1202A

When you installed Resource Sharing, a program file called
APCTO3K.PUB.SYS was also loaded onto the HP 3000.

After you configure the formatter for a specific printer, Resource
Sharing will automatically use the APCTO3K formatter for character
conversion, whenever that printer is used.

The APCTO3K formatter must be configured for each shared printer. To
configure the formatter for a specific printer, use the Resource Manager
Utility (RESMGR).

To configure the APCTO3K formatter for a specific printer:.

   1. Run RESMGR by typing the following command at the colon prompt:

            RUN RESMGR.PPC.SYS

   2. Choose Share f2.

   3. Choose Share Device f2.

       RESMGR prompts:

       Shortname ('//' to cancel)?

   4. Type a shortname for the device that will help you identify it,
for example, ASP (for Asian system printer).

       RESMGR prompts:

MPE LDEV number or device class ('//' to cancel)?

   5. Type the MPE logical device number (LDEV) or the MPE device class
of the printer you want to configure.

       RESMGR prompts:

       Password (optional)?

   6. Type a password, or if you do not want to set a password, just
       press Enter.

       RESMGR prompts:

Do you want to customize your printer configuration (Y/N)?

   7. To configure the APCTO3K formatter, type Y, and press Enter.

       RESMGR prompts:

What do you want to configure?
             1) Configure document formatter.
             2) Configure document environment file.
             3) Configure document priority and number of copies.
            Enter choice (1, 2, or 3):

   8. To configure the formatter, type 1 and press Enter.

       RESMGR prompts:

       Formatter Name:

   9. Type the name of the APCTO3K formatter file at the prompt:

            APCTO3K.PUB.SYS

       RESMGR prompts:

       Options:

  10. The APCTO3K formatter has no options. Press Enter.

       RESMGR prompts:

            When should the formatter execute?
             1) Execute formatter immediately.
             2) Execute formatter as part of a job stream.
             3) Execute formatter as a part of a scheduled job stream.
            Enter choice (1, 2, or 3):

  11. To execute the formatter as a "son" process, meaning that the
formatter will execute immediately whenever the printer's
shortname receives a print request, type 1 .

       RESMGR responds:

Shortname shortname has been added to the network.

  12. Configure the APCTO3K formatter for each Asian printer on the HP
3000 that uses simplified or traditional Chinese and will be used
with the Asian version of Resource Sharing.

  13. Verify the device status and the printer configuration of the
printers you have configured to use the APCTO3K formatter. Type
the following command at the SHARE> prompt:

            STATUS PRINTINFO

RESMGR displays a list of device information, including shortname,
classname, formatter, options, job priority, start time,
environment file, number of copies, and document priority.

  14. Press CTRLY to cancel the display and return to the SHARE> prompt.

  15. Here is an example of the Status Print Information display:

                                Share Status
            _____________________________________________________________

            ****************************************************
            Shortname: ASP
               Classname: HPC1200A
             Formatter: APCTO3K.PUB.SYS
               Options:
               Job Pri:
               Start Time:

               Copies:
               Doc Pri:
            ****************************************************

In the above example, an HP C1200A printer with the classname
HPC1200A and the shortname ASP has been associated with the
       formatter, APCTO3K.PUB.SYS.

  16. To exit RESMGR, choose RESMGR Main F8, then choose Exit F8.
