HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX

Migrating from MPE V to MPE/iX

The following migration procedures assume that you have completed the
release and Resource Sharing installation described earlier in this
manual. Do not follow the instructions in this section unless you are
migrating from MPE V to MPE/iX.

Task 1. Migrate Resource Sharing environment

There are two sets of procedures for migrating the Resource Sharing
environment from your MPE V system to your MPE/iX system: the Directory
Migration Tool (DIRMIG) and STORE/RESTORE.

CAUTION If you are migrating all of your accounts and users to MPE/iX, be sure to back up your workstations to an MPE/iX volume set as soon as possible after MPE/iX is installed on the server.
Before You Begin the Migration. Before you begin migrating your Resource Sharing environment to MPE iX, you should perform the following tasks: * Plan which accounts, files, and shared discs to migrate. * Decide which migration procedure to use (DIRMIG or STORE/RESTORE). * If you are using DIRMIG, create a SYSDUMP tape on your MPE V system. * If you are using RESTORE, create STORE tapes on your MPE V system. (See "Migrating with STORE/RESTORE" later in this chapter.) Migrating with the Directory Migration Tool (DIRMIG). Use the Directory Migration Tool (DIRMIG) if you are migrating all or most of your accounts from MPE V to MPE/iX. Go to the 900 Series HP 3000 Migration Process Guide that you received with your HP 3000 Series 9XX system. Migrate your accounts, user files, and UDC environment.
NOTE If you did not migrate the PDSHARE.PPC.SYS file, you must run RESMGR to add the shares for each shared disc you migrate individually. (Refer to Chapter 8 of this manual.)
Migrating with STORE/RESTORE. Use the STORE command on MPE V and the RESTORE command on MPE/iX to migrate your files and accounts. The RESTORE command is used with the CREATE option to create the accounts and groups for the files being restored.
CAUTION To make sure no users or Resource Sharing processes are accessing shared discs, run the Resource Manager Utility (RESMGR) on your MPE V system and check the share status. (Refer to Chapter 8 of this manual.) Do not proceed until there are no active shares.
If you do not migrate the PDSHARE.PPC.SYS file, you must run RESMGR to add the shares for each shared disc you migrate individually. (Refer to Chapter 8 of this manual.) Task 2. Modifying Printer Shares If you are updating from Resource Sharing A.01.xx, you need to modify your printer shares because the Print Spooler does not exist on MPE/iX. Resource Sharing requires some additional information regarding the printer to allow shared printing without the Print Spooler. Use the Modify Share screen of the Resource Manager Utility (RESMGR) to modify your shared printer configurations. To modify your printer shares:. 1. To run RESMGR, type: RUN RESMGR.PPC.SYS 2. Choose Share. 3. Choose Modify Share. RESMGR prompts: Modify DISC or DEVICE (default=disc)? 4. To modify a printer or plotter share, type: DEVICE 5. RESMGR prompts: Shortname ('//' to cancel)? 6. Type the sharename of the shared printer whose parameters you are changing. RESMGR prompts: Password? 7. Type the current password, if any. Entering an invalid password prevents you from modifying the share. RESMGR prompts: New password? 8. If you do not want to change passwords, you must type the old password. Otherwise, type a new password. If you just press Enter, you have no password at all on this printer. 9. If the shortname you entered is not an MPE LDEV number or device class, RESMGR prompts: MPE LDEV number or device class ('//' to cancel)? 10. Type an LDEV number or device class to be associated with the sharename. If you don't want to change the LDEV number or device class already associated with this sharename, you must type the old LDEV number or class name. RESMGR prompts: Do you want to customize your printer configuration (Y/N)? 11. Type Y if you want to modify the formatter environment file, number of copies, or output priority associated with this printer. If you have already customized your printer configuration, you must reenter the information. Otherwise, your printer will be configured with the default values. You will then see various prompts that allow you to change the existing configuration. Type N if you do not want to modify any of this information. 12. When you have finished modifying all of your existing printer configurations and want to leave RESMGR, choose RESMGR Main, then choose Exit. Task 3. Modifying Workstations for Direct Mode Printing Processed Mode printing is not supported on MPE/iX with Resource Sharing. If you have workstations that were configured for Processed Mode printing, you need to modify the configuration to allow for Direct Mode printing. If any of your workstations have .BAT files or automatic uses configured for Processed Mode printing, the configurations must be removed or modified to use Direct Mode printing. Modifying Device Drivers. If you have any PC applications that use a DIABLO 630 device driver for Processed Mode printing, you need to change to the appropriate printer driver listed for that application which will provide Direct Mode printing. Where to Go Next Your Resource Sharing installation is complete. Now you must configure the PC and servers environments. To do this.. Refer to this manual -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Plan your shared resources Chapter 2 of this manual 2. Configure Resource Sharing Chapter 3 of this manual 3. Install PC network software PC network manuals 4. Configure PC network software to tune PC network manuals shared disc performance 5. Configure Resource Sharing user session Chapter 4 of this manual logons and logon passwords 6. Configure the PDSERVER priority Chapter 5 of this manual
