HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX
Installing Resource Sharing
Task 1. Record License Information
The following procedures assume that you are updating license information
or installing Resource Sharing for the first time. If you have already
recorded license information and do not need to update it, go to the next
step, "Stream the Resource Sharing Job Stream" later in this section.
The HP NewWave Office License Control program regulates usage of Resource
Sharing. It allows you to record and update license information on your
system, or print a report of the license authorization history. The
program prompts you to enter the product and license information from the
"Software Certificate of License to Use." This information is then
recorded on the system and used to enforce license control. The software
certificate is shown below.
Follow the instructions below to run the License Control program. The
information can be entered in upper or lowercase. You may enter // at
any of the prompts to exit the program.
1. Log on as:
HELLO MANAGER.SYS
2. Run the license control program by entering the following command:
NWOLC.PPC.SYS
Use the information on your Software Certificate (the examples use
the sample information from the certificate shown on the previous
page).
The program displays a menu and a message informing you of the
system type. For example:
________________________________________________________________________________

This system is a Series 957 (LC 102)

NWOLC - The following functions are available:

1) UPDATE License Authorization
2) REPORT on License Authorization History
3) EXIT this program

________________________________________________________________________________
3. Enter 1 or Update at the prompt.
The program prompts for the order number.
4. Enter the sales order number shown on your Software Certificate.
For example:
Enter Order Number: 513705672310X893
The program prompts for the product number.
5. Enter the software product number. For example:
Enter Product Number: B1718A
The program prompts for the product option.
6. Enter the product option. For example:
Enter Option Number: UA3
The program prompts for the option quantity.
7. Enter the option quantity. For example:
Enter Option Quantity: 3
The program prompts for the license code.
8. Enter the license code. For example:
Enter License Code: NRTU-0Q7G-8400-X9D0
The dashes in the license code are not required, although you may
enter them.
A message tells you what the license code authorizes, and that the
license code was accepted and the history file was updated:
___________________________________________________________

This system is a Series 957. (LC 102)

This license authorizes 12 users. (LC 053)

The License Code was accepted. The history file
has been updated. (LC 100)

___________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE If the license information you entered is not adequate for
your system, a warning tells you that the license does not
authorize this system. For example:
Warning: This license does not authorize this system.
The License Code was accepted. The history file has been
updated. (LC 100)
If you get this message, the code is accepted because it is
a valid license code, but your NewWave Office products may
not function properly. Contact your Hewlett-Packard
representative if you need a new license for this system.
_________________________________________________________________
The program will prompt you again to enter an order number so that
you can enter additional license codes.
9. Enter the appropriate response:
* If you have another certificate, the value that you
previously added will appear at each prompt as a default.
Press Return at the prompts to accept the defaults, or
enter new values.
* If you do not have another certificate that needs to be
recorded, enter // at this prompt. The License Control
menu will appear.
10. Enter 3 or Exit at the menu prompt to exit the program.
When you start Resource Sharing, you see a message on your system
console that describes the license in effect for your system.
For example:
License Authorization Successful (NWO LC)
Product Component: Resource Sharing
Authorized for: 12 Users
11. Go to the next step:
* If you are installing Resource Sharing for the first time,
go to "Stream the Resource Sharing Job Stream."
* If you are not installing Resource Sharing and the release
at this time, shut down your system and then do a START
NORECOVERY to enable use of the new license information.
Task 2. Stream the Resource Sharing Job Stream
To complete the Resource Sharing installation, stream the JPDINSTL job
stream:
1. Log on as:
HELLO MANAGER.SYS
2. Stream the JPDINSTL job stream:
STREAM JPDINSTL.PPC.SYS
Task 3. Check Network Configuration
A modification to the server's network communication method was made as
of version A.02.00.
The Resource Sharing server previously used a communication method
developed by Hewlett-Packard. It now uses the industry standard network
communication method for name registration. The NetBIOS name
registration service uses the TCP/IP protocol to provide a mechanism for
a server to register its existence on the network and for a client to
find potential servers.
Some Resource Sharing and network configuration changes may be required.
If you need additional information on network configuration, refer to:
* HP 3000/iX Network Planning and Configuration Guide
* Microsoft LAN Manager User's Guide for MS DOS
After installing Resource Sharing, check the following items before
starting the network:
* PDSERVER
To use the NetBIOS name service, Resource Sharing requires at
least one reserved PDSERVER. PDSERVER is Resource Sharing's
Print/Disk Server. One default reserved PDSERVER is created
during Resource Sharing's initialization.
Please note that you have the option of specifying the number of
reserved PDSERVERs when you start your network. Be sure to check
that you are not starting your network with zero PDSERVERs, as
this will override PDSERVER's initialization.
If you use the following statement when starting your network, be
sure n (the number of reserved PDSERVERS) is at least 1 for
correct operation of Resource Sharing:
NSCONTROL SERVER=PDSERVER,n
* LAN Network Interface Name
The RSCONF.PPC.SYS file is a new Resource Sharing configuration
file. It contains this setting for the LAN network interface name
(niname):
LAN Network Interface = LAN1
If you are using a name other than LAN1, you must modify the
RSCONF.PPC.SYS file to use that name.
To check your LAN network interface name, on the HP 3000 type the
following command:
NETCONTROL STATUS
Use an editor to make the necessary modifications to
RSCONF.PPC.SYS.
* Ethernet Flag
To use the NetBIOS name service, the Enable Ethernet Flag must be
set to Y.
Use the network configuration utility, NMMGR.PUB.SYS, to set the
ethernet flag. The NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS path is @NETXPORT.NI.niname.
* Subnet Mask
It is recommended that the PC client subnet mask match the server
subnet mask. If you do not have subnet masks configured, the
default values are used. Note that the subnet mask default values
are determined by the IP Address class that you use.
If the subnet mask on the server is the same as the PC client
subnet mask, no additional changes are needed.
For PC clients, check your subnet mask by entering the following
command at the DOS prompt:
TYPE PROTOCOL.INI
For the HP 3000 server, type:
NETCONTROL STATUS;NET=niname
If the subnet mask on the client PC does not match the subnet mask
on the server, you can do the following:
On the PC
You can use the ADDNAME command on your PC to add an entry into
the host's file. This command lets TCP/IP users access the
resources of a LAN Manager server on a different network.
To use the ADDNAME command, at the DOS prompt type:
ADDNAME servername ipaddress
To save the information, type the command again with the SAVE
option:
ADDNAME servername ipaddress /SAVE
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE If ADDNAME is not available, an entry may be made by editing
the host's file.
_________________________________________________________________
On the HP 3000 server
Run the NMMGR.PUB.SYS utility to modify the subnet mask
after the ethernet flag has been set. The path is
@NETXPORT.NI.niname.PROTOCOL.IP.
* Neighbor Gateways
A neighbor, or default, gateway should be configured if you have
clients on different networks who are connected, but who are
separated by gateway routers.
To add or modify neighbor gateways, you can use the NMMGR
NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS path @NETXPORT.NI.niname.
Your Resource Sharing installation is now complete.
Return to the release installation instructions to complete the
installation, then complete the following steps.
Starting the Network
To start the network, type:
:NETCONTROL START;NET=LOOP
:NETCONTROL START;NET=niname
:NSCONTROL START
