To Add a Remote HP 3000 System Definition:.

   1. Go to the Add Remote HP 3000 System screen by typing A3 in the Go
to screen field of any menu, or by choosing Add HP 3000 f1 at the
       Remote HP 3000 System Menu.

   2. Type in the remote system name, the node name (qualified if
necessary), the logon user and account, and the user and account
       passwords (if any).

       _________________________________________________________________

NOTE When you leave either password field blank, Access Server
defines the remote system with a blank password in the data
             dictionary.

To avoid software problems with having the user's server
process prompted for a required password when none has been
supplied, Access Server will use an uppercase A as the
password whenever it logs on to the remote HP 3000 in this
             situation.

When you try to add or change such an HP 3000 system
definition, you will be told either that a password was
supplied when none was needed or that an incorrect password
             was supplied.  In the first case, please ignore the message;
all is well. In the second case, correct the password and
try again to add or change the definition.

       _________________________________________________________________

   3. To add the definition, press Enter.

The host attempts to initiate a session on the remote system.

If the remote logon succeeds, the remote welcome message is
displayed (if there is one). The remote system definition is
       added to the data dictionary.

If the remote logon fails, a message appears indicating the cause
of the failure. If the cause seems to be something you typed, the
field containing the error is highlighted. Correct the
information and press Enter to try again to add the remote system.

   4. When the screen clears, you can add another remote system.

   5. To leave this screen, choose Done f8. This returns you to the
Remote HP 3000 System Menu. From there, you can go to another
       screen or exit the utility.

Once you have successfully added the remote system definition to the data
dictionary, use the Add IMAGE Database (AIMD) or Add File (AF) screens to
configure remote databases or files. Then use the Add IMAGE Table
(AIMT), Add File Table (AFT), and Add View Table (AVT) screens to
configure IMAGE tables, file tables, and view tables from these databases
and files.

Maintaining Security.

To maintain security on the remote HP 3000 system's databases and files,
you need to define access to the same system several times with different
MPE logons. Define a new remote HP 3000 system for each unique logon
that accesses the group and account in which a particular remote database
or file is located. In this way, Access Server will log the user onto
the system into the group that has access to the database or file under
normal (non-released) MPE and IMAGE security.

Here's how to proceed:

   1. Use the same identifier in the Node field for several remote
       system definitions.

   2. Use different names in each Remote System field, and different
       logons.

   3. At the Add IMAGE Database screen (AIMD) or Add File screen (AF),
use the appropriate name in the Remote System field to configure
each database or file. This establishes the host session in the
group and account for the database or file.

Changing a Remote HP 3000 System Definition

Change a remote HP 3000 system definition already in the data dictionary
at the Change Remote HP 3000 System (C3) screen. This screen displays
the current definition of the remote system you specify, in the same
format as the Add Remote HP 3000 System screen.

You can change all fields except the Remote System name. (For
information about these fields, see "Add," above.)

To change the Remote System name, you must delete the entry (along with
any databases defined for it) and add a new entry. (See "Delete,"
below.)

DBA Capabilities.

You can change a remote HP 3000 system definition only if you are the
primary DBA.

Impact on PC Users.

If you have "released" your databases or files, changing the remote logon
should have no effect on your users. The same databases or files should
be accessible through Access Server as before.

But if, for example, your previous logon account was ACCT1, where
database DB1 was secured, then changing your logon account to ACCT2 would
make database DB1 inaccessible to Access Server users.

Releasing DB1 is one way to solve this problem. (For a discussion of how
to release databases and files, see "Data Access Across Groups or
Accounts" in Chapter 2.)

Alternatively, you can use the Add Remote HP 3000 System screen to define
one remote system several times with different remote system names and
logons. (For instructions, see "Maintaining Security," above.)

To Change a Remote HP 3000 System Definition:.

   1. Go to the Change Remote HP 3000 System screen by typing C3 in the
Go to screen field of any menu, or by choosing Change HP 3000 f2
at the Remote HP 3000 System Menu.

   2. Type the remote system name and press Enter.

If an entry exists for this remote system, the rest of the fields
used to add a definition appear with the current definitions
       filled in.

   3. Type in any changes to the Node, User, User Password, Account, and
       Account Password fields.

If you decide to leave the remote definition unchanged, choose
Cancel Changes f8. The screen will clear and you can specify
another remote system to change or return to the Remote HP 3000
       System Menu.

       _________________________________________________________________

NOTE When you leave either password field blank, Access Server
defines the remote system with a blank password in the data
             dictionary.

To avoid software problems with having the user's server
process prompted for a required password when none has been
supplied, Access Server will use an uppercase A as the
password whenever it logs on to the remote HP 3000 in this
             situation.

When you try to add or change such an HP 3000 system
definition, you will be told either that a password was
supplied when none was needed or that an incorrect password
             was supplied.  In the first case, please ignore the message;
all is well. In the second case, correct the password and
try again to add or change the definition.

       _________________________________________________________________

   4. To put the changes into effect, press Enter.

The host attempts to initiate a session on the remote system.

If the attempt succeeds, the welcome message (if any) from the
remote system appears. The existing entry for the remote system
       is updated.

If the attempt fails, an error message appears and the incorrect
field is highlighted. Type in the correct information and press
Enter, or choose Cancel Changes f8 to leave the remote system
       definition unchanged.

   5. When the screen clears, you can change another remote system
       definition.

   6. To leave this screen, choose Done f8. This returns you to the
Remote HP 3000 System Menu. From there, you can go to another
       screen or exit the utility.

Deleting a Remote HP 3000 System Definition

Delete an unwanted remote HP 3000 system definition at the Delete Remote
HP 3000 System (D3) screen.

Impact on PC Users.

Deleting a remote system definition has no effect on a user currently
accessing a configured table whose data derives from the remote HP 3000's
databases or files. The user is working from a copy of the data created
before the remote system and its database or file definitions were
deleted.

DBA Capabilities.

You can delete a definition of a remote HP 3000 system to the data
dictionary only if you are the primary DBA.

To Delete a Remote HP 3000 System Definition:.

NOTE Before deleting a remote HP 3000 system definition, you must delete all databases and files defined for that system using the Delete IMAGE Database (DIMD) and Delete File (DF) screens. (See "Deleting an IMAGE Database Definition" and "Deleting a File Definition" in Chapter 4.)
1. Go to the Delete Remote HP 3000 System screen by typing D3 in the Go to screen field of any menu, or by choosing Delete HP 3000 f3 at the Remote HP 3000 System Menu. 2. Type the name of the remote system whose definition you want to delete. 3. Press Enter. The Administrator Utility looks through the data dictionary for the remote system name and any databases or files configured for it. If there are no databases or files defined for the remote system, it is deleted from the dictionary. If you did not first delete such databases or files, an error message appears and the deletion does not take place. 4. When the screen clears, you can delete another system. 5. To leave this screen, choose Done f8. This returns you to the Remote HP 3000 System Menu. From there, you can go to another screen or exit the utility. Examining Remote HP 3000 System Information Examine information about remote HP 3000 systems at the Show Remote HP 3000 System (S3) screen and at the List Remote HP 3000 Systems (L3) screen. These screens provide two different ways to examine the definitions of remote systems currently defined in the data dictionary: * Display the definition of a specific remote system (Show), or * Display a list of all defined remote systems (List) Whether you Show or List depends on why you are referencing the information. The two screens are shown on the next page. DBA Capabilities. You can display both a definition of a specific remote system and a list of all defined remote systems if you are the primary DBA. You can display only a list of all defined remote systems if you are a secondary DBA. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | CONFIG Show Remote HP 3000 System Screen: S3 | | Type in the information and press ENTER. | | | | Remote System | | | | Node _________________________________________ | | | | User ______ User Password ______ | | | | Account ______ Account Password ______ | | | | Data Sources on page of | | | | Type Data Source Group Account IMAGE Password | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | | | Print Previous Next Go To Help Done | | Page Page Page | | | ______________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | CONFIG List Remote HP 3000 Systems Screen: L3 | | Choose Done to return to the Remote HP 3000 System Menu. | | | | Remote Systems Page of | | | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ | | | | Print Previous Next Go To Help Done | | Page Page Page | | | __________________________________________________________________________________________________ To Show a Particular Remote HP 3000 System Definition:. 1.
