Identifying and Installing Your User Terminals
[REV BEG]
NOTE If your systems does not have additional user terminals, skip to
the next chapter, Chapter 3, "Starting the Computer System."
[REV END]
The terminals that you ordered with your computer should be placed in the
locations desired, with the appropriate interface cables (which come in a
separate box), installed from each terminal to the HP 2340A DTC location.
There are several types of terminals that you can connect to your
computer through the HP 2340A. Be sure to read the documentation that
comes with these terminals for familiarization and any installation
instructions.
To connect the terminal(s)
1. Locate the terminal ports on the back panel of the HP 2340A (see
Figure 2-20 ). The ports are labeled Slot #0 Direct Connect,
Port 0 through Port 7, and Slot #1 Modem Connect, Port 0 through
Port 5 (Port 5 is used only as a printer port).
2. Begin connecting the terminal cables to the HP 2340A. Start at
Slot #0 Direct Connect with the connector labeled Port 0, and
continue connecting to Port 1, Port 2, and so on. When Slot #0 is
filled, go on to Slot #1 Modem Connect, and begin with the
connector labeled Port 0, continuing as you did with the Slot #0
Direct Connect ports.
Do not connect a terminal to the printer port: Port 5 on the Slot
#1 Modem Connect card. See Figure 2-20 (2).
3. Fasten the screw on either side of the connector so that the cable
is firmly attached to the HP 2340A.
To connect the AC power.
1. Find the power cord that came in the box with the HP 2340A.
2. Make sure that the power switch on the front of the HP 2340A is
off. See Figure 2-24 .
Figure 2-24. HP 2340A Front View
3. Find the ac power socket in the back of the HP 2340A DTC at the
top right. See Figure 2-20 , item (5).
4. Connect the power cord to the HP 2340A DTC.
5. Connect the power cord to the wall outlet.
Before you can use the HP 2340A DTC, you must set up the computer
software to use the DTC. Do not turn on the power to the DTC until you
have prepared the computer software. Chapter 4, "Getting Your System
Ready For Use," describes how to prepare the computer software.
To connect the LAN terminators to the computer
[REV BEG]
NOTE If your system has an HP 2340A DTC, skip this section and continue
to the next chapter.
If you do not have an HP 2340A DTC, you must place a "T" connector, with
LAN terminators attached at both ends, to the LAN connector on the
computer's back panel.
1. On the back of the computer, connect a "T" connector (3) onto the
LAN connector (1). See Figure 2-25 . The "T" connector is
part number 92227N. Use a push-on-and-twist motion to connect the
"T" connector. It is on and locked when it no longer can be
twisted.
2. Connect a LAN terminator, (2a) and (2b), at each end of the "T"
connector (3). See Figure 2-25 .

3. Cover the LAN "T" connector assembly (1, 2a, and 2b) that connects
both the computer and the DTC with the fabric, anti-static cover
(4) that came with the "T" connector. See Figure 2-26 .
