HP Predictive Support CE Guide For HP 3000 Series 900

Phase 4: Configuring the Modem

   1. Set the modem switches for the selected configuration type.
(Table 3-3 and Table 3-4 list the switch settings for supported
modems by configuration type; Appendix C details how to set the
       switches.)

   2. Power the modem off and back on again.

   3. Ensure that cable connections are securely in place. (See Table
       3-2)

                                 Table 3-2.

   4. Plug the analog phone line into the appropriate jack on the back
of the modem (such as, "TELCO", "LineJack", "TEL LINE", or "TO
       LINE").

   5. Ensure that the DTR light, located on the front of the modem, is
on. (For the SupportLink, push the display button on the front
panel; an asterisk (*) should be displayed for DTR).

   6. If the phone is available, attach it to the back of the modem and
dial the HP Response Center phone number.

          a. If you receive a high-pitched tone, you have been connected
to the HP Response Center modem. Hang up.

          b. If you do not receive a high-pitched tone, redial and/or
recheck the phone number you dialed, check cabling, and so
forth. Redial until you receive a high-pitched tone.

       _________________________________________________________________

NOTE HP 37212B modems, upgraded HP 50759A modems, and modems used
with the LAN console port, do not have to be powered off.
You will need to dial in twice when using an upgraded HP
             50759A.

       _________________________________________________________________

   7. If cabled for remote console access, verify that the remote
console is in a disabled state as follows:

          a. Make sure the Key Switch is in the enable position except
              on 9X7 systems.

          b. Press Ctrl B at the hard console (such as LDEV 20). The
display line at the bottom of the screen should say,
DISABLED. If not, type dr to disable the remote console.

          c. Type co to return to MPE.

NOTE [REV BEG] 1. The two sets of switches on the underside of the HP 50759A modem are arbitrarily named S (with 8 switches) and X (with 4 switches). The internal jumper must be set to "DSR follows OH." See the HP 50759A User's Manual. 2. If the HP 50759A modem has not been upgraded, settings for Configuration Type 2 must be: S4, S6, S8, X4: Down; all others: Up. See "Phase 4" in Chapter 2 on how to identify an upgraded modem. 3. To allow remote console use with the SupportLink modem, internal jumper W1 (located inside the modem, rear, far left side) should connect the two pins furthest from the W1 label. 4. To allow remote console use with the SupportLink II modem, internal jumper W1 (located inside the modem, rear, far left side) should be set to position AA. [REV END]
