HP Predictive Support CE Guide For HP 3000 Series 900
Phase 3: Configuring the Remote Console
You need to configure and enable the remote console so the HP Response
Center can perform remote diagnostics when required while ensuring that
HP Predictive Support dialout capability is properly reinstated.
Configuring the Port
This section applies to all systems. After completing it, if you are
configuring the remote access port on the LAN console card, refer to the
next section, "Configuring the LAN console Card Port".
Configure the remote access port so the remote (parallel) console allows
the HP Response Center direct hard-console control during a dialin
session. See Figure 3-2 for a sample dialogue of the configuration.
1. Place the Key Switch in the "Enable" position. The HP 9X7 does
not have a key switch.
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE On 95X and 96X machines, the key switch is on the operator
panel located on the top, right side of the machine. On
92X, 93X, and 94X machines, the key switch is located behind
the small door on the front of the machine at the bottom.
To open this door, grasp the "ears" at each side and pull
down.

Figure 3-1. Configuring the Remote Console Access Port (Continued)
Disabling the Remote Console
It is critical that the remote console be disabled properly upon
completion of the remote support session. Improper disabling will
prevent HP Predictive Support from dialing out.
1. At the system console, type dr at the CM> prompt.
Remote console access has been disabled. The status line at the
bottom of LDEV 20 should read, "DISABLED." (HP Predictive Support
should now be able to dial out.)
2. Type co to return to normal console operation. Console messages
should now return to LDEV 20.
Configuring the LAN Console Card Port
For 9X7 systems with the LAN console card, make sure the datacomm port on
the LAN console card is configured. To verify whether the datacomm port
is configured or to configure it, see "Phase 8: Checking the Datacomm
Port Configuration" in Chapter 2.
