System Administrator's Quick Reference Guide

Overview of Initial Installation Procedure 

The information that follows summarizes the steps in the installation
procedure.

   1.  Mount the system load tape (SLT) on the system tape drive and
       reset the system.

   2.  Set the system clock to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

   3.  Run the INSTALL utility.

   4.  Start the system.

   5.  Use SYSGEN to copy the default configuration group to CONFIG.SYS.
       You should also modify the configuration at this time if you need
       to add devices such as disks.

   6.  Shut down the system and restart using START NORECOVERY.

   7.  Use the VOLUTIL utility to add additional system volumes as needed
       (other than LDEV1).

   8.  Run the AUTOINST utility.

       a.  Restore FOS and SUBSYS tapes.

       b.  Use NMMGR to configure the distributed terminal controller
           (DTC).

       c.  Use VOLUTIL to add nonsystem volumes.

       d.  Create a new system load tape (SLT).

   9.  Shut down the system and update from the new system load tape.

  10.  Restart the system again, using START NORECOVERY.
