Restarting After an Involuntary System Shutdown

Use the following procedure to restart the system after a system hang or
other simple system failure. The failure is usually marked by a lack of
response to input.

   1. Record any failure information displayed on the system console.

   2. Record the series of flashing four-digit numbers on the LED
       display on the control panel.

   3. To reset the system, enter:

            :CTRL B

This resets the system and displays the CM> prompt.

   4. At the CM> prompt enter:

            CM>TC

   5. This executes a soft reset and starts AUTOBOOT. When the TO
OVERRIDE, PRESS ANY KEY WITHIN 10 SECONDS message appears:

       Press any key.

   6. Press Y in answer to the prompt:

BOOT FROM PRIMARY PATH (Y or N)?

   7. Press Y in answer to the prompt:

            INTERACT WITH IPL?

   8. Mount tape on tape drive and place online.

   9. When the ISL> prompt appears, enter:

            ISL>DUMP

  10. When the ISL prompt is displayed, restart the system manually by
       entering:

            ISL>START

The option RECOVERY is the default. It will automatically restart
       spooled devices and suspended files.

  11. Remove tape, label it, and notify Hewlett-Packard of system
       failure.
