RJE/XL Node Manager's Guide

Chapter 3 Configuring Host Systems to Include RJE/XL

This chapter provides you with quick reference assistance on configuring
IBM 2780/3780 binary synchronous communications on an IBM or IBM
plug-compatible host system. Use this chapter in conjunction with your
IBM system manuals.

The following information is provided in this chapter:

 * The "General Considerations" section gives you a list of items to
consider when configuring the IBM host, such as the type of remote
host and the type of line you are using.

 * The "IBM 3705, IBM 3725 Emulation Program (EP) Generation" section
tells you which macros must be configured in the EM generation. It
also lists the parameters in the macros that are relevant to RJE/XL
and gives you recommended values. An IBM 3705, IBM 3725, or similar
device is necessary to support data communications on an IBM host
    system.

 * For systems using JES2 (MVS), the "JES2 Generation Considerations"
section tells you which definitions in JES2 pertain to RJE/XL and
    gives you recommended values.

 * For systems using VSE/POWER, the "IBM VSE/POWER Generation
Considerations" section tells you which definitions in VSE/POWER
pertain to RJE/XL and gives you recommended values.

 * For systems using JES3 (MVS), the "JES3 Generation Considerations"
section tells you which definitions in JES3 pertain to RJE/XL and
    gives you recommended values.

 * For systems using RSCS (VM), the "RSCS Generation Considerations"
section tells you which definitions in RSCS pertain to RJE/XL and
    gives you recommended values.

Example system generation statements and brief explanations are provided.

This chapter does not include information on the operating system
statements you must provide to support the communications controller.
For information on these statements and for a detailed understanding of
all the host system generation procedures you should refer to the
following IBM documentation:

 * System Programming Library: JES2 Installation, Initialization, and
    Tuning

 * JES3 System Programming Library: Initialization and Tuning

 * IBM 3704 and 3705 Control Program Generation and Utilities Guide and
    Reference Manual

The acronym expansions for the IBM 3725 and the IBM 3745 controller
    manuals are:

    NCP (Network Control Program)

    SSP (System Support Program)

    EP (Emulation Program)

 * For the IBM 3725 controller (NCP version 4)

NCP, SSP and EP Generation and Loading Guide

NCP, SSP and EP Resource Definition Guide

NCP, SSP and EP Resource Definition Reference

 * For the IBM 3745 controller (NCP version 5)

NCP, SSP and EP Resource Definition Guide

 * VSE/POWER Installation and Operations Guide

 * Virtual Machine: Remote Spooling Communications Subsystem Networking
