This manual describes the HP 3000 file copy utility, FCOPY/3000.
FCOPY is a utility program within the HP 3000 multiprogramming executive operating
systems (MPE V/E and MPE XL) that lets you copy data
from one file to another. This manual covers the use of FCOPY on
MPE V/E and on MPE XL, since FCOPY works the same way on both
operating systems. Because MPE V/E and MPE XL treat devices as
files, you can use FCOPY to copy
data from any input device to any output device. FCOPY is useful
for making multiple copies of files, for
making account-independent magnetic tape copies of disk files to
move from one HP 3000 system to another, and for
transferring programs or data from one medium to another; for
example, from magnetic tape to disk.
In addition, FCOPY has several powerful features that extend its
usefulness beyond these basic functions.
For example, FCOPY lets you convert data from one computer code
system to another as you copy it. This
function makes it easy to prepare files on magnetic tapes for
use at various computer installations or to
incorporate files on magnetic tape from other computer
installations into your HP 3000 system. Another
FCOPY function lets you copy portions of a file. You might use
this function to divide an existing file into several separate files.
