This chapter describes how applications can send and receive data on an SVC socket. The topics discussed include:

  • Sending and Receiving Data

  • Controlling the MDTF, D, and Q bits

  • Using Nonblocking I/O

  • Getting Next Message Status

  • Setting the Buffer Thresholds and Sizes

This chapter assumes that the SVC has been established using the techniques described in Chapter 3 “ Establishing and Terminating a Socket Connection”. Once the connection has been established, the distinctions between the client and server processes break down. The peer processes on either side of an SVC can transmit and receive data freely and equally.
