COMMUNICATOR 3000/XL - REL. 2.0 (A.30.00)

Chapter 2 SYSTEM INFORMATION

Introducing the HP 3000 Series 960

by Maria Molinos
Commercial Systems Division

The HP 3000 Series 960 is an extension to the high-end HP 3000 Series 950
platform. The Series 960 is a Series 955 Processor with increased cache
size and PDC changes required to support additional cache. A ROM on
Power System Monitor (PSM) assembly will be replaced to provide
additional time to flush the additional data cache during power failure.

The HP 3000 Series 960 offers an upward path for accounts who can benefit
from greater throughput than is available on the Series 955. For the
installed base, the Series 960 provides an upgrade path for Series 70,
Series 950 and Series 955 users with heavily loaded systems. The
performance increase of the Series 960 is primarily targeted for
interactive, mixed interactive and batch, and multibatch. For new
accounts the Series 960 can be used for even larger commercial data
processing applications and for more compute-intensive commercial
applications.

SERIES 960 FEATURES

The HP 3000 Series 960 includes:

 * Extension to the high-end performance range by 30 to 40 percent (this
is over twice the performance of the HP 3000 Series 950 and up to
four times the performance of the Series 70)

 * Field upgradable from either the HP 3000 Series 950 or the Series 955

 * Aggressively priced; also, the HP 3000 Series 955 price has been
reduced to ensure that it is consistent with the price/performance of
    the HP 3000 Series 960
