Chapter 7 PERIPHERAL SUPPORT 64 Disk Spindle Support by Walter McCullough Commercial Systems Division With this release of MPE XL, the operating system has increased the number of disk volumes and volume sets recognized from 32 to 64. This means that 64 volumes or any combination of volume sets, not to exceed 64 spindles, can now be connected to the system. This new enhancement will allow users to add more disk drives to the system enabling them to double the disk capacity on a system. To exploit this new feature all that is needed is a successful UPDATE or INSTALL of 2.0, which is needed to create the disk structure used to support this new enhancement. The disk structures used to support the 64 disk spindle release are backward compatible.
