HP GLANCE/XL Enhancements

Functionality of the interactive real-time performance monitoring tool HP
GLANCE has increased with the addition of two new features. This release
of the product now provides the user with the capability to save and then
restore user softkeys upon terminating HP GLANCE/XL. The new "Q" command
provides for the dynamic altering of an executing process's queue or
priority.

USER SOFTKEYS

HP GLANCE/XL through the use of a session temporary Job Control Word
(JCW) called GLANCEKEY, allows the user of HP GLANCE to select three
methods in which to handle user softkeys. When GLANCEKEY is set to 1,
the default, HP GLANCE/XL will handle user softkeys as in previous
versions. The program will load its own softkeys for use. It does not
save/restore user softkeys. If GLANCEKEY is set to 2, HP GLANCE/XL will
save and restore user softkeys. Upon program initiation, the current
user softkeys will be saved, the program will then proceed to load the
standard HP GLANCE/XL softkeys. At program termination the user softkeys
will be restored. By setting GLANCEKEY to 3, HP GLANCE/XL will not
save/restore user softkeys nor will it load its standard softkey values.

In summary, the proper values for the GLANCEKEY Job Control Word are:

 * GLANCEKEY = 1 is the default, user softkeys are not saved or
    restored.

 * GLANCEKEY = 2 is the setting that will save and restore user
    softkeys.

 * GLANCEKEY = 3 will cause HP GLANCE/XL to not use softkeys during
    execution.

Q COMMAND

The new Q command allows the user to dynamically change the priority of
an existing process. This capability provides the user with the ability
to move a process from queue to queue, such as moving a process from the
DS queue to the CS queue. Also, certain users can fix a process at a
priority between 100 and 255 if such dispatching granularity is desired.

Execution of the Q command is limited to users with OP or SM capability.
A user with only OP capability is limited to modifying a circular queue
process (CS, DS, or ES) to another circular queue. An SM user can
additionally change a process to a linear queue (BS). By default, a
process moved to the linear queue (BS) will be set to priority 100. If a
more selective priority is required, a number between 100 and 255 can be
entered.
