DUMP Improvements by Denis R. Dundiee/Mark Fulgham, Commercial Systems Division Three new enhancements are included with this release of the DUMP program. The first enhancement improves performance by approximately 30%. An equivalent size memory dump will now take you 30% less time to perform, which is an important performance enhancement over previous releases of MPE XL. This performance increase was achieved by adding multiple disc and tape buffers in order to improve I/O throughput to disc and tape. The second improvement has made the program more robust. If multiple Transfer of Controls (TC's) are inadvertently entered by the operator before taking a memory dump, the integrity of memory contents will be maintained. Prior to this release, if TC was executed more than once before the memory dump was taken, memory save state would have been destroyed before the dump could have been taken. The third enhancement provides support for the HP7979 tape drive.
