HP CD Extensions for MPE/iX Installation and Administration Guide

About This Guide

This guide tells you how to install HP CD extensions on your HP 3000
system and on your PC. It also gives you instructions for using the Media
Manager to effectively manage the new capabilities that HP CD extensions
brings to your HP 3000 system.
The chapters in this guide are organized to take you through the
installation procedure and to give you instructions for managing your
system. Chapters 2, 4, and the appendixes contain information needed by
a system administrator. The procedures in these chapters can be
performed only by a user with System Manager or Operator capability (with
Save Files capability for PUB.SYS). Chapter 3 contains information that
can be used by either a system administrator or a client PC user; you do
not need System Manager or Operator capability to install the client
portion of HP CD extensions.

This guide contains the following chapters:

   * Chapter 1, "Introduction," gives you a basic overview of HP CD
       extensions for MPE/iX.

   * Chapter 2, "Requirements," tells you what you need to do before
       installing HP CD extensions.

   * Chapter 3, "Installing the Server Software," tells you how to
install the server portion of HP CD extensions on your HP 3000
       system.

   * Chapter 4,"Installing the Client Software," tells you how to
install the client portion of HP CD extensions on your client PCs.

   * Chapter 5, "Performing System Administration Tasks," tells you how
to use the Media Manager to administer the operation of HP CD
       extensions.

   * Appendix A, "Connecting and Configuring a CD-ROM Drive," tells you
how to connect a CD-ROM drive to your HP 3000 system and how to
       configure the drive for operation.

   * Appendix B, "Installation Overview," gives you a quick overview of
the steps for installing HP CD extensions. Once you are familiar
with all the procedures involved, you can refer to this appendix
       as a reminder.

   * Appendix C, "Dismounting and Mounting MPE/iX CD-ROM Disks," tells
you how to mount and dismount an MPE/iX CD-ROM disk onto a SCSI
       drive or an HP-IB drive.

   * Appendix D, "Troubleshooting," describes some problems you may
encounter while using HP CD extensions and suggests procedures for
correcting those problems. This appendix also describes the
internal process that occurs when you run HP CD extensions, to
help you understand errors that may occur during that process.

   * Appendix E, "Error Messages," explains the error messages
pertinent to the client installation procedure, the Media Manager,
       and the server software.

   * Appendix F, "MPE/iX Commands for System Administration," tells you
how to perform system administration tasks from the HP 3000
       command line.

Thank you for your use of Hewlett-Packard's CD-based products.
