HP CD Extensions for MPE/iX Installation and Administration Guide

Editing the AUTOEXEC.BAT File

If you don't update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file automatically with the setup
program, you need to edit the file. You need to specify the name of the
HP 3000 system and identify the HP CD extensions device driver. You can
also edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to specify drive letters for CD-ROM
drives.

Adding the Directory, HP 3000 Name, and Device Driver Information

If you update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file during the installation, the setup
program adds these lines to the file:

     C:\HPNETCD\HPNETCD.EXE HOST=CHEERS
     C:\HPNETCD\MSCDEX.EXE /D:HPNETCD

The first line identifies the HP CD extensions directory and the name of
the HP 3000 system. In the above example, the directory is C:\HPNETCD,
and the HP 3000 name is CHEERS. The information in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
will show the directory and HP 3000 name you entered during the
installation procedure.

NOTE You must specify a hostname rather than an Internet (IP) address.
The second line tells MSCDEX to find the HP CD extensions device driver named HPNETCD. If you don't update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file during the installation, you need to add both lines to the file. Replace the example name CHEERS with the name of your HP 3000 system and the example directory C:\HPNETCD with your HP CD extensions directory. You also need to make sure that the second line, containing the MSCDEX command, is loaded ahead of DOSSHELL or Microsoft Windows. If you have local CD-ROM drives connected to your PC, the HPNETCD driver will coexist with these drives. The device driver line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file will show both drives, as in this example: C:\HPNETCD\MSCDEX.EXE /D:LOCALCD /D:HPNETCD In this example, LOCALCD is the name of the drive connected to the PC. Specifying Drive Letters If you want to specify drive letters for CD-ROM drives on your system, you can do so by using the MSCDEX L: option in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.If you don't specify any drive letters, HP CD extensions will assign the highest available drive letter to each CD-ROM drive.
NOTE If you use the LASTDRIVE command in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to limit the letters available, make sure there are enough letters to accommodate all available CD-ROM drives on your HP 3000 system.
In the following example, the drive letter is I. Replace I with the drive letter you want to use. To specify a drive letter: 1. Locate the following line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file: C:\HPNETCD\MSCDEX.EXE /D:HPNETCD 2. Add the following text to the end of the line: /L:I The new line will be: C:\HPNETCD\MSCDEX.EXE /D:HPNETCD /L:I When you boot the PC, the information displayed about MSCDEX includes the drive letters for the CD-ROM logical drives. In the following example, the two CD-ROM drives on the HP 3000 system start at drive letter I. MSCDEX Version 2.22 Drive I: = Driver HPNETCD unit 0 Drive J: = Driver HPNETCD unit 1 Support for Expanded Memory The HPNETCD device driver may not support the /E expanded memory option of MSCDEX, depending on your TCP client package. If you are already using a local CD-ROM drive and have configured MSCDEX with the /E option, you will need to remove the /E option if you are also using HP PC/Arpa NS or Microsoft LAN Manager clients. These TCP packages access the same location in expanded memory as MSCDEX. This problem does not arise with WRQ 3000 Connection 2.01, so you should be able to retain your use of expanded memory. A Sample AUTOEXEC.BAT File The following sample AUTOEXEC.BAT file contains the HP CD extensions information, as well as information added during an HP LaserROM installation. @echo off path C:\;C:\DOS;C:\WINDOW31;c:\batch;c:\norton; rem mode com2:9600,N,7,1,P set TEMP=D:\TMP \MOUSE1\mouse prompt [$p$g] rem HP LaserROM/PC setting set fultemp=c:\LROM rem HP CD extensions setting C:\HPNETCD\HPNETCD.EXE HOST=CHEERS C:\HPNETCD\MSCDEX.EXE /D:HPNETCD
