HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX
Creating a Shared Disc
The first step in using the Resource Manager Utility (RESMGR) is to
create a shared disc. Creating a shared disc establishes a root file in
your logon group (or the group you specify). The root file stores
pointers to the directories and files on your shared disc. There can be
only one shared disc per MPE group.
When you create a shared disc root directory, you are creating an HP 3000
file. You must therefore be able to create and delete files on the HP
3000 (SF capability). If you are creating a shared disc on a nonsystem
volume set, you must have UV and CV capabilities.
To create a shared disc:
1. Access the RESMGR main screen (described in "Running Resource
Manager" in Chapter 8), then choose Disc f1.
2. Choose Create Disc f1.
* If you have basic capabilities, RESMGR immediately creates
the shared disc in the logon group and account. This
message appears:
Shared disc created in group.account.
A share must exist before it can be used.
You have completed creating a shared disc. Now go to the
next page to create shares for the disc.
* If you have AM capabilities, you can designate the group in
which you want to create a shared disc. The program
prompts:
MPE group ('//' to cancel, default=group)?
Press Enter to accept the default value (your logon group),
or enter the group name.
To cancel the operation, enter two slashes (//) at any
field.
NOTE Before you can use the disc you created, you must share it. That
is, you must define a connection path to it and identify the ways
in which the shared disc can be accessed. Sharing a disc is
described on the next page.
