HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX

Automating Resource Sharing for the PC User

Several things can be done to better automate the Resource Sharing
product for the PC user. Below is a discussion of some of these items.
Details of the implementation of these suggestions are in the Using
Vectra manual and your PC network software manuals.

The key to implementing the network and Resource Sharing capabilities is
to plan well before installing and setting up the PCs. Once fully set
up, the PCs can be automated for the users so that very little work needs
to be performed by the user to use shared resources. Because the users
are using common interfaces, automating the functions will simplify
system troubleshooting.

The initial work of connecting to the network, activating the printer
setup, and logging on to the network in Virtual Terminal mode can all be
automated so that it occurs each time the user turns on the PC.

The PC can be automated so that all connection and setup operations for
shared disc and printers are done each time the PC is powered on or
restarted.

Adding Batch Files for the DOS environment

Batch files enable users to dynamically (temporarily) use shared
resources. Batch files allow faster and easier dynamic uses. Users can
type the batch file name to dynamically use a resource. Since the System
Manager creates these files, other users do not have to know how to
create batch files or know what they do. Refer to DOS manuals for
information on how to create batch files.

Window Environment

If you are using a window environment then you can either connect via the
batch files (see DOS Environment above), or dynamically connect using
file manager (for Disc Shares) and Print Manager (for print shares). For
a NewWave environment, see the Window Environment.
