Information Access Server: Database Administration

Specifying Your Character Set

The following types of data are handled in one of ten character sets on
the host HP 3000:

   * Tables generated on the host HP 3000 from host or remote databases
       or files

   * Data downloaded from the mainframe to the host HP 3000

   * Data uploaded from the PC to the host HP 3000

   * Data (from any source) saved in any of the formats available on
       the HP 3000

The default character set is ROMAN-8 (USASCII). If you are using one of
the nine supported ISO-7 character sets, then as the last step in the
initial installation of Access Server, you or your System Manager runs
ADMIN.PPC.SYS with PARM=8 to specify the new character set for your site:

         :RUN ADMIN.PPC.SYS;PARM=8;INFO="ADMIN"

You are then prompted for one of the following character sets:

           0 ROMAN-8 (USASCII)
           1 SVENSK/SUOMI
           2 DANSK/NORSK
           3 FRANCAIS M
           4 FRANCAIS
           5 DEUTSCH
           6 UK
           7 ESPANOL M
           8 ESPANOL
           9 ITALIANA

In all likelihood, you will only need to identify the character set once,
upon initial installation of the product.
