Information Access Server: Database Administration
Maintaining the Data Dictionary
Two job files (JDICTCHG, and JDICTCLN) are provided to simplify the
maintenance of the data dictionary. These job files and how to use them
are described below.
Modifying Databases
The job JDICTCHG.PPCUTIL.HPOFFICE is used to alter the size of the
Information Access data dictionary. You can use it to expand or contract
the HDPDIC and HDPENV databases.
To alter the databases:
1. Disable Access Server.
2. Modify the capacities or the passwords of the databases by editing
the schemas.
3. Remove any maintenance words on the databases.
4. Stream JDICTCHG.PPCUTIL.HPOFFICE. This job unloads the HDPDIC and
HDPENV databases, purges them, rebuilds them using the SHDPDIC and
SHDPENV schemas you've modified, and reloads them.
5. Restore any maintenance words to the databases.
NOTE If you changed either database password, be sure to let Access
Server know about the change by running ADMIN.PPC.SYS with PARM=3
for a change to HDPDIC's password, or PARM=4 for a change to
HDPENV's password. (Or use the UDC commands CHGDICPASS and
CHGENVPASS.)
Optimizing the Database Chains
The job JDICTCLN.PPCUTIL.HPOFFICE optimizes the IMAGE chains in the
HDPDIC and HDPENV databases. Chains can specify unnecessary linkages if
entries have been added to or deleted from the databases. Run this job
if search times have increased noticeably.
To optimize the database chains:
1. Disable Access Server.
2. Remove any maintenance words from the databases.
3. Stream JDICTCLN.PPCUTIL.HPOFFICE. This job unloads, erases, and
reloads the HDPDIC and HDPENV databases.
4. Restore any maintenance words to the databases.
