Batch Processing

The ability to run batch jobs is particularly useful for users who need
to access data on the host but do not want to tie up their PCs while
waiting for the information to become available. In this case, users can
initiate a batch job on the host at their discretion, periodically check
on the jobs status, and then eventually access the data. The batch job
can also be initiated at some pre-specified time on the HP 3000 (perhaps
during off-peak hours), making the data available when the user is ready
to access it.

A series of commands allow the user to select and direct the various
Access PC functions. There are two ways to use these commands:

   * In interactive mode. You can enter the Host Batch Facility on the
HP 3000 (by running HDPBATCH) and interactively execute Host Batch
commands. Issuing commands in this interactive mode allows quick
access to information and can be used to create a command file.
There are some useful commands (valid only in the interactive
mode) that assist you with preparing and executing command files.

   * In command files designed to run on the HP 3000. The most common
use of the commands is to prepare command files that run as batch
       jobs on the HP 3000.
