Information Access Server: Database Administration
How Access Server Works
The PC user establishes a session on the host HP 3000, using a basic
serial connection file or entering connection information at the Remote
Connection screen in Access PC. (A user operating over a basic serial
connection link has the third option of establishing a session before
running Access PC.) Details about establishing a session are provided in
the Information Access PC Connections and Batch Files manual, as well as
in Chapter 12 of this manual.
Access PC establishes a link with Access Server and passes along requests
from the PC user to Access Server, which passes back the requested
information in usable form.
Access Server has its own data dictionary, which contains information
about what data is available through Access Server, who the users are,
and what subset of the data each user can see. Access Server uses the
entries in its data dictionary to interpret and validate each request.
When the PC user exits from the Access PC application, Access Server
terminates the processes that were set up to handle the PC-to-host
communications for that user.
