Information Access Server: System Management

Required Procedures

Here are some of the procedures required to keep Access Server
functioning properly:

Required Procedures

Terminal Configuration.

If you're using a basic serial connection (not a hardwired direct
connection), configure the ports for PCs so that they run Access PC as
terminal type 10. Other types could cause a software timeout.

We suggest that you configure Access PC ports permanently as type 10 in a
system coolstart or coldstart. If you do not, PC users using a modem
connection must use this command every time they log on to Information
Access via MPE :HELLO user.account;TERM=10. (Host sessions established
by non-connection file logons through the Remote Connection screen are
automatically logged on as type 10.)

Backup Procedure.

To maintain data integrity, always back up these two MPE groups together:

   * PPCDICT.HPOFFICE contains the data dictionary databases HDPDIC and
HDPENV. If you use STORE (instead of DBSTORE) for backup, be sure
that all files of each database are stored, or integrity will be
       lost.

   * PPCSAVE.HPOFFICE contains the saved table data files (Txxxxxx).
While the HDPENV database contains saved table definitions, these
files contain the saved table data. If the data files are not
backed up with their corresponding definitions in HDPENV, the link
       between them is lost.

How frequently you back up these groups depends on how frequently
Information Access is used on your system. If the product is used
heavily, back up these groups often.

NOTE Users should be careful when deleting saved tables. The only way to recover a deleted saved table is to restore the latest Access Server backup tape. This retrieves the deleted table, but all tables saved, and all data dictionary changes made since the last backup, are lost.
