Information Access Server: System Management
Disabling Access Server
When first installed, Access Server is enabled by default. To make
Access Server unavailable to users, type the UDC:
:DISABLEAC
or,
:RUN ADMIN.PPC.SYS;PARM=2;INFO="ADMIN/password"
Disabling Access Server flags the application as unavailable to PC users,
and stops Access Server processes for all PCs on line.
Setting and clearing this flag lets you control Access Server
availability. For example, the DBA should restrict users from the
application when changing the dataset capacities or passwords for HDPDIC
or HDPENV. Users should also be kept out of Access Server while tables
containing sensitive data are being added, to prevent users from
accessing the data between the time the table is added and the time its
security is assigned.
Disabling Access Server:
1. Checks first to see if there are any currently active users. If
there are such users and the disable has been requested
interactively, you are given the chance to cancel or confirm the
request to disable. If you confirm the request, the remaining
actions take place.
2. Flags the Access Server databases (HDPDIC and HDPENV) as
unavailable to users.
3. Logs a "terminate" message for each active server process in the
file HDPMAIL.PPCSAVE.HPOFFICE. This action causes each HDSP
process to send the "terminate" message to its PC immediately.
The message is displayed on the PC screen, and the Access Server
link is broken. The PC's HDSP, PCSERVER or HDSPNS, and HDPMFSP
processes are terminated, and Access PC can no longer access
HP`3000 data. The user can continue to access local tables or
exit from Access PC.

NOTE If the Access PC user is inactive, the disable will be
pending until remote access activity is resumed. You may
need to abort the sessions of such users.

4. Leaves the MPE session alive if the PC user was logged on in
terminal mode before running Access PC. If Access PC logged the
user on to MPE, it then sends a transaction to terminate the MPE
session.
5. Prevents further accessing of the data until Access Server is
enabled.
When You Disable Access Server
It is important to notify PC users before disabling Access Server, to
reduce the possibility of losing their work. If you must disable Access
Server without waiting for all users to exit from Access PC, here's what
happens:
1. If there are any currently active users, you are asked to cancel
or confirm your disable request. If you confirm the request,
Access Server immediately sends a "terminate" message to the PC's
server process (HDSP).
2. Access PC receives this message and notifies the user that Access
Server is unavailable.
3. The PC can no longer communicate with the host. Any result table
that has not been saved is lost.
