Identifying and Installing Your External Disk
[REV BEG]
NOTE If your system does not have an external disk, skip this section,
and continue on to the section "Connecting the SCSI Terminator."
[REV END]
The external disk or disks, depending on how many you ordered, come
mounted in a disk cabinet. The list below describes the parts required
for the external disk cabinet.
Figure 2-12. Identifying the Parts of the External Disk Cabinet
1. disk cabinet 3. SCSI cable (part number 5062-3383 or K2296) (1)
2. power cord 4. SCSI terminator (part number 1252-3920 or K2291) (1)
(1) Shipped separately from the disk cabinet.
To familiarize yourself with the external disk cabinet
Figure 2-13 shows the location of the switches, indicators, and
connectors for the disk cabinet (also known as a disk drive cabinet).

2. power receptacle and ON/OFF switch (back) 4. top SCSI connector (back)
Figure 2-13 above shows an external disk cabinet containing three
disk drives. Count the indicator lights (located on the right side of
each disk drive) to identify the number of disk drives in your external
disk cabinet. You will be asked to supply the total number of disk
drives in your system when you bring up the system in a later chapter.
Remember to add one internal disk drive from the computer cabinet to the
number of disk drives in the external disk cabinet(s), to determine the
total number of drives in your system.
For future reference, record the total number of disk drives here:
______ .
To connect the external disk cabinet
Be sure that the external disk cabinet is close to the installation
location, which should be near an electrical outlet for the cabinet. To
assemble the cabinet and attach it to the computer, perform the following
steps:
1. Be sure that the cabinet ON/OFF switch is in the OFF (0) position.
2. Plug the power cord into the back of the cabinet, just below the
ON/OFF switch. See Figure 2-14 .
Figure 2-14. Power Cord Connection
3. Connect the end of the SCSI cable (part number 5062-3383 or K2296)
to the bottom connector on the back of the disk cabinet. See
Figure 2-15 .
Figure 2-15. External Disk Cabinet SCSI Cable Connection
4. Connect the other end of the SCSI cable (2) to the top connector
(1) labeled SCSI on the computer back panel. See Figure 2-16 .
(The end of the SCSI cable may not have the thumb screws that
appear in this illustration.)

5. Connect the external disk SCSI terminator (part number 1252-3920
or K2291) to the top connector on the back of the disk cabinet.
See Figure 2-17 .

6. Plug the power cord that is already connected to the cabinet into
the wall outlet.
This completes the assembly of the external disk drive cabinet to the
computer.
