Configuring the HP Router ER as a Predictive Gateway Node at the
Customer's Site
Use the Quick Configuration and the Configuration Editor to configure the
router as the Predictive Gateway Node:
* Quick Configuration to configure the parameters to begin router
information. This creates a minimal router configuration.
* Configuration Editor to configure the parameters to customize your
router. See the HP Router ER Configuration Guide for details on
getting to specific menus, making menu item selections, and
choosing action options.
To configure the minimal configuration of the HP Router ER as a
Predictive Gateway Node using Quick Configuration,
1. Go to the terminal connected to the router.
2. Go to the Main Menu screen.
3. Type 6 to select Quick Configuration. This displays the Quick
Configuration Instruction screen.
4. Press Return. This displays the Quick Configuration Data screen.
5. Enter a name for the router in the System name: field. In our
example, this is predgtwy since a maximum of fifteen alphanumeric
characters, with no spaces, is allowed.
6. Enter y for SNMP if you want to access the router with SNMP
network management. DoD IP (IP) needs to be configured for SNMP
to access the system.
7. Enter y for Telnet to use TELNET to log into this router. DoD
needs to be configured on at least one port for TELNET to operate.
8. Enter the LAN Network IP address of the router in the IP address
field for the Ethernet 1 (the router's Ethernet/802.3 port 1, a
CSMA/CD line) or Ethernet 2 port (the router's Ethernet/802.3 port
2, a CSMA/CD line).
In our example, this is A 111.111.111.222 which will route DoD IP
traffic through Ethernet 1.
9. Enter the subnet mask appropriate for the configured Ethernet port
in "dotted decimal" notation. The subnet mask determines what
portion of the IP address is the subnetwork number and what
portion is the host number.
10. Enter the X.25 Network IP address of the router in the IP address
field for the WAN 1 (used only for WAN port 1, a synchronous line)
or WAN 2 port (used only for WAN port 2, a synchronous line).
In our example, this is B122.222 222.100 which will route DoD IP
traffic through WAN 1.
11. Enter the subnet mask appropriate for the configured WAN 1 port.
12. Save the configuration and exit Quick Configuration. This
displays the Main Menu screen.
To customize the router using the Configuration Editor,
1. Go to the Main Menu screen.
2. Select 3 for the Configuration Editor. This displays the
Configuration menu.
