13. Determine whether the DTS Profile meets the requirements:
a. If yes, exit NMMGR. ("Home" the cursor to the Command
Field; press Enter twice.) Next, verify the OPENVIEW
portion of the datacomm port configuration. (See
"Configuring the OPENVIEW Portion of the DTC", later in
this appendix.)
b. If no, remain in NMMGR and change the DTC port
configuration (see the next section for procedures).
Changing the DTC Port Configuration
Changing the DTC port configuration consists of assigning another DTS
profile to the port. You can select an already existing DTS profile or
create a new one.
To Select An Already Existing DTS Profile.
1. Go to the DTS Profile Selection screen by typing the following in
the command field and pressing Enter:
@dts.profpc
This displays the DTS Profile Selection screen which lists all the
DTS profiles.
2. From the displayed lists of DTS profiles, look for a DTS profile
type of TERMINAL with a name that includes the following:
a. tr as the first two characters (indicates "terminal")
b. 10 as the second two characters (indicates "term type 10")
c. u as the fifth character (indicates U.S. modem)
Such a profile may meet HP Predictive Support requirements. For
example:
tr10u24
3. Type the selected profile name in the Profile name field and press
Enter. This displays the DTS Terminal Profile screen for the
profile.
4. If the selected DTS profile does not meet HP Predictive Support
requirements, press f8 and select another DTS profile until an
appropriate profile is found.
* If an appropriate DTS profile cannot be found, see the next
section, "To Create a New DTS Profile". Do not change an
existing profile, as the proper functioning of other ports
using the profile may be impacted.
To Create a New DTS Profile.
If none of the already existing profiles meet HP Predictive Support
requirements, or if you simply want to create a new one specifically for
the modem's DTC port:
1. Go to the DTS Profile Selection screen by typing the following in
the command field and pressing Enter:
@dts.profpc
This displays the DTS Profile Selection screen which lists all the
DTS profiles.
2. Create a name for the new DTS profile. When creating a DTS
profile name, use letters and numbers that can be identified
easily, such as the following:
a. tr as the first two characters to denote "terminal"
b. 10 as the second two characters to denote "term type 10"
c. u as fifth character to denote a U.S. modem
d. 24 as the remaining two characters to denote "2400 baud"
3. Type the name in the Profile name field.
4. Type terminal in the Type field.
5. Press f5, Add. This displays the DTS Terminal Profile screen.
6. Type in values that meet HP Predictive Support requirements for
each field, as shown in Table D-4.
7. Press f6, Save Data.
You are now ready to configure the DTC port.
To Configure the DTC Port.
Having created/selected an acceptable DTS profile, configure the DTC port
by assigning the new DTS profile to the port.
Assuming you are still in NMMGR:
1. Press f8, Prior Screen twice to go to the DTC Modem Card
Configuration screen.
2. Type in the name of the selected (or new) DTS profile in the
Profile Name field for the port.
3. Press f6, Save Data.
You are now ready to validate the change.
NOTE Special diagnostic capabilities are available through Port 0, Card
0 of the DTC. These capabilities are discussed in the HP2345A
Datacomm and Terminal Controller Installation and Service Manual
(Part Number 2345-90021). These capabilities are available only to
a local terminal connection; they are not available via the modem.
You may wish to consider this when selecting the HP Predictive
Support dialout port.
Validating the Change in NMMGR
Changes made to NMMGR must be validated. To validate changes from any
NMMGR screen:
1. Place the cursor in the Command: field.
2. Type the command, validate, and press Enter. This displays the
Validate Configuration File screen.
3. Press f2, Validate DTS/LINK. The screen is replaced by a display
of messages detailing the validation. Press Return as instructed.
(You are returned to the Validate Configuration File screen.)
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE If an error is encountered, refer to the NMMGR Reference
Manual for instructions on resolving the error condition.
Do not proceed until the error condition is resolved.
_________________________________________________________________
4. Place the cursor in the Command: field, type exit, and press
Enter twice to exit NMMGR.
You must now cross-validate the change through SYSGEN.
Cross-Validating
A change to the DTC port configuration in NMMGR must be cross-validated
through SYSGEN. To cross-validate:
1. At the MPE prompt, type the following and press Return:
SYSGEN
2. At the SYSGEN prompt, type the following commands, denoted in the
shaded text (press Return after typing each command):
sysgen> io
io> exit
sysgen> exit
If no error messages are displayed when you exit io>, the cross
validation has successfully taken place. If errors occur, resolve them
and cross-validate again.
Once cross-validation is completed, configure the OPENVIEW portion of the
datacomm port.
Configuring the OPENVIEW Portion of the DTC
1. Log on to OPENVIEW and have OVRun in the active window with the
network map displayed.
2. Select the DTC by pointing the mouse's cursor to the DTC on the
map, and clicking the mouse.
