HP LaserRX/MPE Installation Addendum

Resolving Problems

This section will help you resolve some of the more obvious problems you
might encounter while installing HP LaserRX/MPE on the PC or the HP 3000.

Clearing a Hung Port

If a power failure occurs or the PC is rebooted while the HP LaserRX/MPE
INSTALL procedure is transferring files to the HP 3000, the PC might
appear to be hung when you try to reconnect to the HP 3000. The server
is still waiting for a reply since the connection was not terminated
properly. If you have a terminal emulator on the PC, terminate the
connection properly using the following procedure:

   1. Run HP AdvanceLink (or whatever terminal emulator package you
       have).

   2.  Press Break.

   3. Type :ABORT, then press Enter.

       You might find that the commands you enter are not echoed on the
       screen or you have a "walking" colon, even though you can still
       issue commands. If you have an MPE V system, press ESC : Enter to
       turn the echo on and move the colon back to column 1. With an MPE
       XL system, type :SET ECHO=ON and press Enter twice, and retry the
       procedure.

Resolving Incompatible Measurement Interface Versions

If you try to start collecting data (running the SCOPE program), but you
have installed the incorrect HP LaserRX/MPE files on the host, you will
get an error message similar to the following:

     ******************************************************
     Potentially incompatible Measurement Interface versions
     exist between Scope/XL and this system.

     This is Scope/XL version A.01.01

     This system is using Measurement Interface version: X.02.09.

     Please contact your local Hewlett-Packard
     Support Representative for resolution.
     ******************************************************

Before you call for resolution, try reinstalling HP LaserRX/MPE on the
host HP 3000. Choose the source of HP LaserRX/MPE host files carefully,
and pick the correct CD subdirectory for your HP 3000's operating system.
(See table 1-1 for a list of operating systems and their corresponding
subdirectories.)

Resolving Error Messages

If an error occurs while using the INSTALL procedure, you will receive an
error message. Take corrective action and try to run INSTALL again.

After some error messages are displayed, a 2-minute, timeout delay occurs
before you can correct the information on the screen and try to
reinstall. This timeout occurs with the following errors:

   * Incorrect user, group, or account password.

   *   Incorrect baud rate.

   *   Incorrect port.

   * Incorrect information in the connection file.

Once the timeout has expired, move to the field containing the error and
correct it.

The following errors can be corrected immediately (no timeout exists):

   *   Incorrect logon.

   *   Incorrect connection file name.

   * Incorrect connection logon file or logoff file password.

The HP LaserRX/MPE installation error messages are listed below, followed
by the basic serial error messages.

Installation Error Messages

Basic Serial Error Messages

DCL10.

incorrect information in the connection file.

Correct the baud rate, port, or connection file information, then press
F1 to restart the installation procedure.

DCL12.

Encryption password is incorrect.

You could not access your connection file (or a file called from within
the connection file) due to an incorrect or missing encryption password.

The file name you specified does not exist.

Check to be sure you used the correct path and file names.

DCL15.

try again. If no other application is active, reboot your PC.

DCL25.

Failed to log on to the HP 3000.

Incorrect data in the logon procedure caused the connection to fail.
This message might also indicate the HP 3000 or another device was not in
a ready mode.

Check for correct telephone number, modem attention string, or
configuration settings. Also check your logfile to see if the logon
string and password were transmitted at the proper time. Check for any
messages from the HP 3000 indicating its readiness to receive (a DC1, for
instance).
