HP LaserRX/MPE Installation Addendum
Installing HP LaserRX/MPE on Subsequent HP 3000s
The method you use to install HP LaserRX/MPE on subsequent HP 3000s
depends on your site's system configuration. If your site's HP 3000s are
all running the same version of the operating system, you can install HP
LaserRX/MPE using either a network file transfer or a magnetic tape.
If you are installing or updating HP LaserRX/MPE on an HP 3000 that is
running a different version of the operating system, you must transfer
the files from the CD by using one of the methods described under
"Transferring HP LaserRX/MPE Files" earlier in this chapter.
NOTE MPE XL Versions
The same installation procedures can be used for more than one
version of MPE XL. If you are running two versions of MPE XL
installed from the same CD subdirectory (for example, versions
A.30.00 and A.31.00 are both installed from CD subdirectory
MPEXLA30), you can install HP LaserRX/MPE on one HP 3000, then use
either the network file transfer or the magnetic tape method to
install it on subsequent HP 3000s. (Refer to table 1-1 for a list
of MPE XL versions and their corresponding CD subdirectories.)
Method 1: Network File Transfer
If your site's system configuration supports binary file transfers
between HP 3000s, you can use the network file transfer method to install
HP LaserRX/MPE on subsequent HP 3000s.
To install (or update) using the network file transfer method:
1. Log on to the target system as MANAGER.SYS.
2. Create the SCOPE group, if it does not already exist.
3. Verify that the source and target HP 3000s are using the same
version of the operating system.
4. Transfer the files TRUCK, UHAUL, and BUILDRX from the source HP
3000's SCOPE.SYS group to the target HP 3000's SCOPE.SYS group.
If existing copies of the TRUCK, UHAUL, or BUILDRX are found on
the target HP 3000 during the transfer, you will be prompted to
purge them. If this prompt appears, answer "YES" and continue
with the installation.
5. Modify and stream BUILDRX just as you did for the first
installation. (See "Modifying and Streaming BUILDRX" earlier
in this chapter for details.)
Method 2: Magnetic Tape Creation and Installation
If system-to-system network access is not available, you can install HP
LaserRX/MPE using magnetic tape.
To create an HP LaserRX/MPE installation tape do the following:
1. Log on to the HP 3000 on which HP LaserRX/MPE is installed as
MANAGER.SYS,SCOPE.
Provide passwords as required.
2. Modify the JOB command (the first line) in the file
MAKERX.SCOPE.SYS to include necessary passwords.
3. Stream the job MAKERX.SCOPE.SYS.
The job stream MAKERX.SCOPE.SYS creates an HP LaserRX/MPE
installation tape. Reply to the pending resource request to
allocate a tape drive when prompted on the system console.
4. Check the job listing for any errors.
5. Remove the passwords from the MAKERX.SCOPE.SYS file (see step 2
above).
6. Log off of the HP 3000.
When the job is finished, label the tape as "HP LaserRX/MPE Host
Installation Tape," and indicate the version of the operating system on
which you created the tape.
To install HP LaserRX/MPE software on a new host HP 3000, do the
following:
1. Log on to the new host HP 3000 as MANAGER.SYS.
Provide passwords as required.
2. Stop the SCOPE collector, if it is running, by purging
RUN.SCOPE.SYS.
3. Wait at least 1 minute.
4. Type: listf log@.scope.sys,2 and press Enter. Check the screen
to verify that the collector has stopped (any logfile that is
still busy will have an asterisk displayed after the file name).
5. Restore the files TRUCK.SCOPE.SYS, UHAUL.SCOPE.SYS, and
BUILDRX.SCOPE.SYS on the HP 3000 in SCOPE.SYS from the HP
LaserRX/MPE host installation tape by entering the following:
:FILE TAPE;DEV=TAPE
:RESTORE *TAPE;@.SCOPE.SYS;CREATE;SHOW
Reply to the pending resource request to allocate the HP
LaserRX/MPE host installation tape when you are prompted on the
system console.
6. Modify and stream the BUILDRX.SCOPE.SYS job, and verify successful
installation. See "Modifying and Streaming BUILDRX" for this
procedure.
