Automating Maintenance Operations
You can schedule the Mailmaint job and the Bin Emptier to run at specific
times and on specific days during the week using the MAILSCHEDULE
command. On HP DeskManagerPLUS systems, the Waste Bin emptier could for
example be configured to run at a fixed time each evening during the
week, and Mailmaint set to run once each weekend.
If you choose to automate Mailmaint bear in mind:
* You must have loaded a tape for the databases to be stored onto
before the Maintenance job starts.
* There must be some way of automatically replying to the console
message asking you to load a tape.
* If your databases will not fit onto one tape, there must be an
operator present while the Maintenance job is running to load a
new tape when the first is full.
You may find it particularly useful to use automated maintenance if you
are running a small HP Desk system which does not have a full-time
operator.
NOTE For scheduling to operate successfully using Mailschedule the
Supervisor program must be running at the time the scheduled
program is due to run.
