these have been purchased. For example, X.400 or SNADS gateways.
NS/DS Computer Information
Use the NS/DS Computer Information screen to record information about the
way your local computer links to other computers over the network. This
screen is reached by pressing Computer Menu at the Network Menu.
NOTE If you require to link with systems with versions of HP Desk
earlier than B.05.00, then you can only use DS transport.
NS/DS Computer Information
Computer Name
An 8-character alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies a remote
computer. This name is the local name of the remote computer, which was
specified when its database was built. Obtain the name from the
Administrator of the other computer.
NS/DS
Use this field to specify whether the local computer communicates with
either NS/3000 or DS/3000 as a transport system. Type 1 to specify NS.
Type 2 to specify DS.
Node Name
This field is 50-characters long and is used to contain the NS or DS Node
name of remote computers linked through X.21 or X.25. This identifies
the DS or NS node to DS/3000 or NS/3000. This parameter is not required
if you are using the DS transport mechanism and supply a DS device class
or number.
Maximum Trucks:...Sending
This two character numeric field contains values between 1 and 36. The
recorded value defines the maximum number of NS and DS Master Trucks
sending information to the remote computer. If the Receiving value at
the remote computer is not the same as this Sending value, the lower of
the two values is used. The default value is 1.
Maximum Trucks:...Receiving
This 2-character numeric field contains values between 1 and 36. The
recorded value defines the maximum number of NS and DS Slave Trucks
receiving information from the remote computer. The default value is 1.
Data Compression:
Set this value to 1 if you require data compression to be enabled when
communicating with the specified NS computer, and 0 or a space to disable
data compression.
NOTE This option is only available to users of HP DeskManagerPLUS and
will only be effective if HP DeskManagerPLUS is installed on the
specified computer.
NS IP Address
This field applies to NS linked systems only. Use this field to
optionally specify the NS IP address of the remote computer. If an IP
Address is configured, then a check is run to ensure that incoming Master
Trucks verify their address. This provides greater security since it
guards against applications masquerading as Master Trucks.
DS Device
This field applies to DS linked systems only. This field is ignored for
NS Transport. It is an 8-character field that identifies either a device
class or a device number. For DS either this field or the node field,
can be used. Both fields can never be used together.
DS Node
An 8-character field used only for remote computers linked through X.21
or X.25, which identifies the name of the DS node to DS/3000. This
parameter is not required if you supply a DS device class or number.
Phone Number
This field only applies to DS linked computers. A 20-character field
that identifies, for dialled connections, the telephone number of the
modem attached to the remote computer. In addition to the number, the
following characters can be included:
/ Separator used for ACUs (Automatic Calling Unit/Autodialer) that
have a second dial tone detect.
E End of number
D Delay of 1 second
# Defined by the local telephone system
* Defined by the local telephone system
HPOFFICE: Account password
This field only applies to DS linked devices. An 8-character field for
the password of the HPOFFICE account on the remote computer. The Master
Truck uses this when logging on to the remote computer. By default this
is blank.
HPOFFICE: User password
This field only applies to DS linked devices. An 8-character field for
the password of the MAILMAN user (in the HPOFFICE account on the remote
computer). By default this is blank.
Computer Availability
Each four character field represents the time span of one hour, where
each of the four characters fields represent a fifteen minute period.
The values below define the availability as follows:
0 The computer is not available for this 15-minute period.
1 [Not used at present]
2 Only urgent mail can be sent during this 15-minute period.
3 Both normal and urgent mail can be sent.
4 All mail can be sent. This includes mail that could not be
delivered because, at the last attempt to transmit, there was
temporarily not sufficient space in the remote system's database.
This mail is put in the deferred mail queue.
You display a list of all the remote computers that have been identified
in your HP Desk network by pressing List.
NS/DS Computer List

A 6-character, alphanumeric code that identifies the location part of a
mailnode address.
Sublocation
A 2-character alphanumeric code that identifies the sublocation part of a
mailnode address.
Computer/Gateway
An 8-character, alphanumeric code, starting with a letter, which uniquely
identifies a remote computer or an EFT/FSC gateway, on your computer.
Route Priority
Optionally specifies a restriction on the priority of mail allowed to be
transported over this route. A means deferred mail only. B means normal
and deferred mail only.
All values must already exist in the database. To Add or Delete a
route, complete all fields. Hierarchic locations do not require a
sublocation code.
The two types of list available are described on the next page. Press
List to access them.
Route List
A list of all the remote computers through which a particular mailnode is
accessed, is displayed by typing a location and sublocation and then
pressing List. Only explicitly configured routes are listed: any
defaulted routes are not shown. An example of this display is shown

Use the EFT/FSC screen to configure the details of gateways for your HP
Desk installation. This screen is reached when you press EFT/FSC Menu
at the Network Menu.
External File Transfer/
Foreign Service Connection
Gateway Name
A mandatory 8-character alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies the
gateway.
Connecting IPC file name
A mandatory 36-character field which identifies the IPC file for the
gateway. The filename must be qualified with the group and account.
Format of messages to be transmitted
A numeric value specifies the format in which messages leave the gateway.
As follows these are:
1 An EFT gateway where messages remain in the internal HP Desk
format. This is the default.
2 An FSC gateway with messages in ARPA Standard format.
3 An FSC gateway with messages in hybrid ARPA Reference format.
This format includes ARPA headers and MPE file names.
4 An FSC gateway with messages in ARPA Compressed format. This
format removes unwanted textual matter, like the Distribution List
and part numbers.
Foreign System Gateway reference name
A 36-character field that can be used to identify the sending system's
name for this particular FSC gateway. The first character must be a
period (.) or a commercial at character (@).
Transmit PRIVATE messages (formats 2,3,4)
Type Y to let private messages go out through an FSC gateway. Type N to
destroy private letters at the gateway. The default value is N.
Secure messages in PRIVILEGED files
When messages are sent through this gateway to an application whose users
have special privileges, you can choose to store them in privileged
files. Type Y to store users' messages in privileged files. Type N so
that messages sent by users with special privileges are not stored in
privileged files. The default value is N.
Group name to store messages
Messages passed out through this gateway are stored, by default, in the
HPMAIL group of the HPOFFICE account. It is possible to store the
messages in any group in HPOFFICE with write and save access. Use this
field to specify in which group, (other than the default group) messages
are stored.
Gateway availability
Each four character field represents the time span of one hour, where
each of the four characters fields represent a fifteen minute period.
The values control the availability:
0 The computer is not available for this 15-minute period.
1 [Not currently used]
2 Only urgent mail can be sent during this 15-minute period.
3 Both normal and urgent mail can be sent.
4 All mail can be sent. That includes mail that could not
successfully transmitted at the last attempt. This may occur
because there is temporarily insufficient space in the remote
system's database and, was put in the deferred mail queue.
Capabilities
It is possible to set the capabilities awarded to incoming messages
received from non-HP Desk systems. The default setting of the Everyone
capability is Y. The other capabilities are required if you expect to
receive Directory Updates through the gateway. This adds the correct
level of security, and allows the incoming message to be processed by the
ADMIN server.
NOTE This only applies if message format 2, 3 or 4 is selected. The
capabilities are set automatically if message format 1 is selected
(HP Desk internal format).
To display a list of all the EFT/FSC gateways that have been identified
in your HP Desk network you press List.

is not applied to other sites.
Using HP Office Connect to reach a Foreign System:
If you use one of the HP Office Connect products to reach a foreign
system, and the gateway to the foreign system does not exist on your
machine, then type a gateway name. One of two things happen.
Firstly, if the BCREPORT file is closed, an error message is displayed
stating that the Gateway does not exist.
Secondly, if the BCREPORT file is open, it is assumed you want to give
the person a foreign alias on a machine not directly connected to your
local machine. The Verification Menu is displayed.
A list of all the users who have foreign addresses on a particular
gateway is displayed by typing the gateway name, and then pressing List.
Users' aliases are not included in this listing.
When you complete the screen, select an appropriate function key.
Verification
The Configurator displays the Verification screen to check that you want
to add a foreign address alias to the BCREPORT file.
Verification
The Alias information is transferred to the BCREPORT file when you press
Yes. The BCREPORT file can be sent to a Remote Updates Server on a
machine through HP Desk. Use this process to give users on your local
machine, foreign aliases on a gateway machine within your network. It is
then possible for users to access machines which do not communicate
directly with their local machine, (even other manufacturers machines).
Once the alias is written to the BCREPORT file, the Configurator displays
the Foreign Address Alias Information screen. The alias is not applied
to your Local Database.
Press No to return to the Foreign Address Alias Information screen. The
alias will not be applied to your Local Database.
Foreign Address Alias List
