HP DeskManager Administration
Starting HP Desk the First Time
The first time you start up your installed HP Desk system after
completing configuration, you must do so while logged on to MPE as the
MGR user in the HPOFFICE account. (Subsequently, operator commands can
be issued by from any account.) To start up HP Desk issue a MAILON
operator command, as described in Chapter 17 . This first MAILON
command performs some final set-up, and so takes 30-60 minutes to
complete.
You can check that all HP Desk programs are working correctly by issuing
the operator command MAILSTATUS.
Testing the Configuration
Once HP Desk is started successfully - but before allowing users onto the
system - you should test the configuration.
Sign on as an HP Desk user. You can sign on as General Delivery, which
is a user that is automatically configured for each mailnode, or as any
other user that you've configured. Then carry out the following tests:
* To check the Directory is configured correctly, send test messages
to users on your computer and check they are received.
* If your computer is part of a network, also send test messages to
users on the other computers. Set an acknowledgment level 3
(delivered), so you can check that the messages reach the intended
In Trays on the other computers.
If you've configured test users, as recommended in Chapter 6 ,
try these out too.
Once you're satisfied that mail can be sent and received successfully,
you can start introducing users to HP Desk in a work environment.
