MAILSHOWUSER
Lists users currently accessing HP Desk
Syntax
MAILSHOWUSER
Notes
The MAILSHOWUSER command displays on the console the following
information about users currently signed on to HP Desk:
* User name
* Mail Node
* MPE log on identity
* Log-on logical device
* Session Identity
* Time signed on
If an HP Desk user session terminates abnormally, or is aborted, you may
see a user listed who is no longer using HP Desk. If this is the case,
the sign-on information can be cleared either by signing-on or off in the
normal way or by running the Maintenance program.

MAILSHREDOFF
This command instructs the Supervisor to tell the garbage collection
process to shutdown.
Syntax
MAILSHREDOFF
Notes
This command is only relevant to HP DeskManagerPLUS.
The function of the Garbage Collector is to physically delete garbage
from the database, releasing space from the Item-Header, Item-Content and
Item-Structure datasets. Items in users' Waste Baskets are released for
deletion by the Bin Emptier.

MAILSHREDON
This command instructs the Supervisor to start the garbage collection
process, if it is not already running. The Garbage Collector is only
available with HP DeskManagerPLUS.
Syntax
MAILSHREDON
Notes
The function of the Garbage Collector is to physically delete garbage
from the database, releasing space from the Item-Header, Item-Content and
Item-Structure datasets. Items in users' Waste Baskets are released for
deletion by the Bin Emptier.
Whether the Garbage Collector process operates or not at any time is
dependant upon the configuration setting in the Garbage Collector
configuration screen of Mailconfig. The ability to configure the Garbage
Collector is to minimize its impact on the system. By default it is
configured to pause indefinitely. However, it can be configured to run
at different MPE priorities at different times.
If the HP Desk Supervisor is not running when this command is issued, it
will be started before the command is executed.

MAILSHUTDOWN
Shuts down any processes currently running under the Supervisor and then
shuts down the Supervisor itself. This is the usual way of closing down
HP Desk.
Syntax
MAILSHUTDOWN
Notes
The MAILSHUTDOWN command requests that the Supervisor stop all processes
it is currently running by issuing shutdown commands to the respective
IPC files.
On a busy system, it may take a while for the everything to shut down.
This is because the Mailroom cannot be shut down until all local mail has
been dealt with and the Transport Manager cannot shut down until it has
dealt with any mail which is waiting to go to a remote computer. It is
also possible that the Garbage Collector (if running) may take a while to
close down, especially if it is in the process of deleting a large item.
If you run the Maintenance or Bin Emptier program automatically using the
MAILSCHEDULE command, you should be aware that the MAILSHUTDOWN command
also shuts down the Timer program which is necessary for the MAILSCHEDULE
command to be executed. If you issue a MAILSHUTDOWN command and do not
restart the Supervisor before the next time specified in the Task
Scheduler, the Maintenance program will not run at that time.
See MAILSCHEDULE for further details.

Syntax
MAILSLAVEOFF
Notes
The MAILSLAVEOFF command stops the NS monitor DS Slave Trucks, initiated
by Master Trucks on another computer in the HP Desk network, from
delivering mail to your computer. Trucks that are in the process of
accepting mail when the command is issued will terminate at the next

MAILSTATUS
Use this command to display information about HP Desk programs:
* Status report of HP Desk system
* Examines the PROCMGMT file to determine the areas of the system
that are enabled.
Syntax
MAILSTATUS [report type]
Notes
You can issue the MAILSTATUS command at any time to get information about
any of the processes working under the Supervisor. The information is
displayed in a tabular form and gives:
* The name of the process, for example TMANAGER, or flag, for
example, USERINT.
* Its current state.
For a process this could be down, running, stopping, or aborted.
For a flag this could be enabled or disabled.
For Master Trucks this could be job waiting, starting, connecting,
sending, disconnecting, idle, hung or aborted.
* The date and time the process was last started.
* Any other relevant information about that process (for example for
the number of trucks currently enabled by the Transport Manager.
The optional parameter allows you define the type of report which is
produced:
STANDARD This is summary report covers the key processes currently
running under the Supervisor, such as the Mailroom and
User Interface. This report is displayed by default. To
display other reports use the optional parameter.
ALL This report gives the status of all the possible
processes which run under the Supervisor.
PROCESS If you type MAILSTATUS followed by the name of a
particular process (MAILSTATUS MAILROOM for example),
information on the current status of only that process
will be displayed.

MAILSTORE
Stores the HP Desk databases and associated files to tape.
Syntax
MAILSTORE
Notes
The MAILSTORE command notifies the Supervisor to stream
MAILSTOR.MAILJOB.HPOFFICE. This job shuts down the Supervisor, logs off
anyone using HP Desk and waits for any non-Supervisor processes to
finish. Once all processes have finished, it stores all files and
databases held in the MAILDB group of the HPOFFICE account.
You require OP capability to run Mailstore because it handles privileged
files. If you do not want the MGR.HPOFFICE user to have this capability,
you will have to change the job to run in another account which already
does (for example, OPERATOR.SYS).
The lines of code you will have to alter to do this, along with examples
of what to change them to, are given in the comments at the beginning of
the Mailstore job.

MAILSTREAM
Streams an HP Desk job.
Syntax
MAILSTREAM filename "timestring"
where filename is the unqualified name of the job to be run, and
timestring is an optional string of characters which may be passed as a
parameter directly to the MPE STREAM Command. This must be enclosed in
quotes.
Notes
The MAILSTREAM command can be used to stream any HP Desk job. Its main
advantage, compared with the MPE STREAM command, is that any password
does not have to be specified with the job, thus maintaining security.
The passwords are held in MAILRECS.MAILDB.HPOFFICE, and can be altered
using the Passedit utility.
NOTE The job stream file specified must reside in the group
MAILJOB.HPOFFICE.

MAILSTREAM may be used to defer the streaming of a job. The date and
time at which this is to occur is specified in timestring. using similar
to specifying the date and time in the MPE STREAM command:
MAILSTREAM REPRTJOB, "IN=,8"
This will stream a job in eight hours time.
MAILSTREAM REPORTJOB, "AT=15:30"
This will stream a job at 3:30pm.
MAILUNLOAD
Unloads the Local, Global and Native databases to tape.
Syntax
MAILUNLOAD
Notes
CAUTION On no account should DBUNLOAD.PUB.SYS be invoked manually to
perform the unload.
The MAILUNLOAD command send a start request to the Supervisor which then
logs off any users and shuts down HP Desk before storing the databases.
The Local, Global and Native Databases must be unloaded to separate tapes
which should be clearly labeled.
You should always check the job listing to verify that the command has
successfully completed as certain unload errors may not be reported by
the job itself.
The MAILLOAD command is used when you wish to expand the database
capacities, or if the databases have been corrupted by a system failure.
After the databases are unloaded, run the Configuration program to
produce new, empty databases. Then issue the MAILLOAD command to load
the new databases with the data from the old ones.

MAILUSERABORT
Enables the HP Desk Administrator to:
* Warn users to log off HP Desk.
* Terminate their MPE session if they do not log off within the
specified time.
* Disable the user interface so that new users can not log on to HP
Desk.
Syntax
MAILUSERABORT [TIME], ["MESSAGE"]
where TIME specifies the number of minutes between warning the users and
shutting down the user interface. MESSAGE defines the message which will
be displayed to any users still logged on to HP Desk when you issue the
MAILUSERABORT command. For example:
MAILUSERABORT 10, "HP Desk will close down in 10 mins "
Notes
The MAILUSERABORT command has a default time of 10 minutes and a default
message of Please leave HP Desk now. These defaults are used if you do
not supply your own time and message.
You can specify any time between a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of
60 minutes. You can also specify any message up to 80 characters long.
In addition to the message which you specify when you issue the command,
a standard warning is issued automatically one minute before the
remaining user sessions are aborted:
OPERATOR WARNING Please sign off HPDesk NOW or your session will be
aborted in 1 MINUTE
NOTE Users running NewWave Mail and AdvanceMail do not receive the
messages warning them to log off HP Desk. If they remain logged on
and have their MPE sessions aborted, this could result in
inconsistencies in their PC database which will require recovery.
The MAILUSERABORT command can be canceled by issuing a MAILCANCELABORT
command from the console.

Syntax
PCMAILOFF
Notes
This command shuts down the AdvanceMail and NewWave Mail Monitor in a
tidy fashion. Once the Monitor is shut down, PC users will not be able

PCMAILON
Starts the AdvanceMail and NewWave Mail Monitor.
Syntax
PCMAILON
Notes
This command tells the Supervisor to turn on the AdvanceMail and NewWave
Mail Monitor as a child process, so that PC users can access HP Desk over
a LAN. If the Supervisor is not already running, this command starts it
up.
The Advancemail and NewWave Mail server also needs the user interface to
be running. To ensure that this is the case, the PCMAILON command also
issues a MAILUSERON command. If the user interface is already running
the Supervisor ignores the MAILUSERON command and just enables the
server.
The server uses the MPE user and account ADVMAIL.HPOFFICE. If you have
passwords on the account HPOFFICE and on the user ADVMAIL, you should
register these in the MAILRECS file using the PASSEDIT program.
Providing you do this you can simply issue the PCMAILON command without
any parameters. Similarly, if there are no passwords set on HPOFFICE or
ADVMAIL, you can also use the PCMAILON command without any parameters.
However, if you have set up an account password on the HPOFFICE MPE
account or a user password on the MPE user ADVMAIL, but you have not
registered those passwords in the MAILRECS file, then you must issue the
command PCMAILON with the passwords as a parameter (each password being
separated by a slash):
PCMAILON userpswd/acctpswd
For example, if you have set the password SECRET on the MPE user ADVMAIL,
but did not register this password in the MAILRECS file by running
PASSEDIT, the Monitor program could only be started by typing the
password explicitly in the PCMAILON command, that is PCMAILON SECRET.
If the password PRIVATE was set on the HPOFFICE account, you would have
to type PCMAILON /PRIVATE.
If the passwords were set on both the ADVMAIL user and the HPOFFICE
account, then you would have to type
PCMAILON SECRET/PRIVATE.

STARTMTRUCKS
Enables more new Master Trucks in addition to those running.
Syntax
STARTMTRUCKS n
Notes
This command instructs the Transport Manager to start n more new Master
Trucks in addition to the trucks already running, where n ranges between
1 and 36. The number of new Trucks that can be started is dependant on
how many are already running. The default value is 1.
STOPMTRUCKS
Disables n running Master Trucks.
Syntax
STOPMTRUCKS n
Notes
This command instructs the Transport Manager to stop n running Master
Trucks, where n has the range of values between 1 and 36 . The default
value is 1.
SUPVON
Starts the Supervisor program and its permanent child process, the Timer
program. It also allocates the operator interface (that is, it loads the
operator interface but doesn't run it).
Syntax
SUPVON
Notes
You do not need to use the SUPVON command unless you want to restart just
the Supervisor. All of the other MAIL...ON commands restart the
Supervisor if it is not already running.
If the Supervisor cannot log on, check the JOBFENCE and LIMIT parameters
for the system and adjust them as necessary to allow it to do so.
The Supervisor (at least) must be running if tasks are to be run
automatically with MAILSCHEDULE.
