Chapter 2 Operating the Device
Front Panel Features and Controls
Before you attempt to load disks into the drives and use your Model
20GB/A device, you should become familiar with its front panel features
and controls. Figure 2-1 illustrates the deskside model and Figure
2-2 illustrates the rackmount model. The reference numbers shown in
each figure are explained in the text following the illustrations.

1. Power-on Button Pushed to switch the Model 20GB/A device on or
off.
2. Mailslot Allows you to insert or remove disks.
3. 9-Character Displays information about the current operation.
Display Generally you press the NEXT or PREV to control
the selections. Once your selection is displayed,
you press ENTER. You may press CANCEL to cancel
your selection.
4. Status Indicators Lit when the indicated activity is taking place.
5. Mode Keys Press these buttons to perform the desired
operations.
LOAD is pressed after you place the disk in the
mailslot. Once LOAD is pressed, the display
prompts you for the desired destination inside the
unit. Once you choose the location, press ENTER.
The disk loads into that location.
EJECT is pressed to remove a disk to the mailslot.
Once EJECT is pressed, the display prompts you for
which disk location to eject. Once you choose the
location, press ENTER. The disk ejects from that
location to the mailslot.
OPTION is pressed to display the current operation
options available such as TEST, INFO, CONF, and
SCSI ID.
6. Selection Control Press these buttons to perform the desired
Keys operation.
CANCEL is pressed to cancel the current operation
or choice.
PREV is pressed to scroll the display choice
backward by one.
NEXT is pressed to scroll the display forward by
one.
ENTER is pressed to choose the displayed
selection.
Control Panel Tips
* Pressing OPTION a second time returns the Model 20GB/A display to
the READY state. The OPTION key acts like a toggle.
* Pressing CANCEL will take you back one step each time it is
pressed.
* When selecting a number on the display, usually you can access
your selection three different ways:
* Press NEXT or PREV to increment or decrement by one.
* Hold NEXT or PREV down to increment or decrement by one at
an accelerated speed.
* Press EJECT or LOAD to increment or decrement respectively
by tens.
