HP Motif/iX System Administrator's Supplement

Incorrect Node Name

Message

UNKNOWN NODE. (SOCKERR 40)
Error: Can't Open display

Possible cause

The display node name as specified on the HP 3000 host in the DISPLAY
variable or on the command line is incorrect. A node with that name does
not exist or is not responding.

Action

Here is a list of things to check:

   * Ensure that the workstation associated with that node name is
       booted and functioning.

   * Verify that the networking on the workstation has been correctly
       configured and started.

   * Verify that the node name of the workstation is correctly spelled
and specified in the display specification.

To test the networking, run vt3k from the workstation to connect to the
HP 3000. Use the hostname command to check the node name of the
workstation.
