Chapter 4 Performing an SPU Switchback

This chapter provides procedures for system operators to switch back
switchable volume sets from an alternate SPU to the home SPU. The reasons
for switching back to the home SPU are as follows:

   * The hardware failure on the home SPU is repaired.

   * Scheduled maintenance or configuration changes on the home SPU are
       complete.

   * The requirement for load balancing has been eliminated.

When the home system is available, you can switch back the switchable
volume sets to the home system. The switchback will proceed as follows:

   1. The applications and sessions using the switched volume sets must
       log off the alternate system.

   2. The operator executes a series of VSCLOSE commands on the
alternate system for the switchable volume sets that are to be
       switched back.

   3. The operator executes the SWITCHBACK command on the home system.

   4. A message appears on the alternate system to indicate that
       switchback is occurring.

   5. After the system mounts the volume sets on the home system, it
displays a message stating that the switchback is complete on both
the home and alternate systems. The message repeats on the home
system until the operator replies to it.

   6. The operator restarts the applications on the home system.

   7. The operator sends a message to the users indicating that they can
log on to the home system.
