Copying Default Configuration File Groups
This section discusses renaming the default configuration files groups
used by the UPDATE and INSTALL utilities mentioned in Chapter 3 .
Overview
The INSTALL utility replaces a system's configuration files with a
default configuration. These defaults allow the system manager or system
operator to boot the system to a fully operational level. They may then
alter the functioning configuration to meet their system's needs.
The UPDATE utility optionally replaces a system's configuration files
with defaults. During an update, the system manager or system operator
has the choice of whether or not to use a configuration stored on the
system volume or to replace the current configuration with the default.
Before a system can properly use its START command, a functioning set of
configuration files must reside in the configuration group CONFIG. The
START command uses CONFIG as its default configuration group.
Since multiple configuration groups reside on a system load tape (SLT),
CONFIG is empty until the system manager copies an appropriate
configuration group into it.
