Native Mode Spooler Reference Manual

Creating a Spool File

You create an output spool file when you direct output to a device whose
spool queues are open. If the appropriate spool queue is open, one way
you can create a spool file is by submitting one or more batch jobs. You
submit one or more batch jobs by using the STREAM command. To submit a
job, enter:

     STREAM jobfile

where jobfile is the name of the file that contains the commands
necessary to run the job.

Jobfile may contain more than one job. For example, suppose you create
MYJOB. MYJOB contains four jobs as follows:

     !JOB MYJOB1 ...
     :
     !EOJ
     !JOB MYJOB2 ...
     :
     !EOJ
     !JOB MYJOB3 ...
     :
     !EOJ
     !JOB MYJOB4 ...
     :
     !EOJ

When you stream MYJOB, each job number from a streamed job is displayed
on a separate line. Any accompanying errors or warnings are displayed on
a separate line following the job number. For example:

     #J100
     #J101
     #J102
     #J103
     Incorrect password;

Try these steps to create a spool file by streaming the simple job shown
below. Log on to your MPE/iX system, enter an editor like EDIT/3000, and
type a few lines. Save this file as MYFILE1. While you are in the
editor, create a job file called MYJOB1 by entering the following:

     !JOB MYJOB1,user/userpass.account/accountpass;INPRI=9;RESTART;OUTCLASS=LP,1
     !CONTINUE
     !EDITOR
     T MYFILE1
     L ALL,OFFLINE
     EXIT
     !TELL user.account MYJOB1 IS DONE.
     !EOJ

where user is your user name, userpass is your user password, account is
your account name, and accountpass is your account password. If you
don't have a user password, then enter user.account/accountpass.

Save this file as MYJOB1, exit the editor, and enter:

     STREAM MYJOB1

Note the job number that is assigned. Now enter:

     LISTSPF

to list your output spool files. Input spool files start with #I and
output spool files start with #O. For this example, you see one or two
output spool files beginning with #O associated with the job number for
this job. (In the FILEDES field, you should see $STDLIST or $STDLIST and
EDTLIST.) Stream the same job a second time and do another LISTSPF.
