Performing System Operation Tasks

Chapter 5 Performing System Functions

As a system operator you are responsible for performing tasks that
monitor system activity. These tasks include managing the console,
communicating with your users, and managing activities for jobs and
sessions.

The system console, also referred to as the console, is a terminal
connected to your computer. It responds to a special set of commands
that are not available on other terminals. By using these commands, you
can get a comprehensive picture of all system activity.

A session is a two-way dialog between a user and the computer. The
computer interprets and follows the commands you enter at the keyboard,
if it can. If it cannot, it uses an error message to tell you that
something is wrong. A job is a sequence of instructions given to the
computer to process. When you store this information in a job file, and
then execute it, you create a job.
