System Administrator's Quick Reference Guide
9. Updating With the New System Load Tape
The following procedures replace the files on the system disk with the
files on the newly created system load tape.
1. Shut down the system.
CTRL A
=SHUTDOWN
2. Mount the new system load tape and put the tape drive online.
3. Reset the system.
CTRL B
CM>RS
4. Press Y in answer to the prompt:
ENTER Y TO CONFIRM YOUR INTENTION TO RESTART THE SYSTEM (Y/N?)
5. When the message TO OVERRIDE, PRESS ANY KEY WITHIN 10 SECONDS
appears:
Press any key.
6. Press N in answer to the prompt:
BOOT FROM PRIMARY BOOT PATH (Y or N)?
7. Press Y in answer to the prompt:
BOOT FROM ALTERNATE BOOT PATH (Y or N)?
8. Press Y in answer to the prompt:
INTERACT WITH IPL (Y or N)?
9. Enter UPDATE at the ISL> prompt:
ISL>UPDATE
10. Enter the current date and time in answer to the prompt:
ENTER THE DATE AND TIME.
If the date and time are correct, press Return.
A series of messages is displayed. After about 25 minutes the
system automatically resets itself and restarts the boot routine.
11. Boot the system from the primary boot path (system disk) by using
one of the following:
a. Not pressing a key in answer to the prompt:
TO OVERRIDE, PRESS ANY KEY WITHIN 10 SECONDS.
b. Overriding Autoboot and answering Y to the prompt:
BOOT FROM PRIMARY BOOT PATH (Y or N)?
12. Restart the system.
ISL>START NORECOVERY
The system restart is complete when the logon prompt (MPE XL:) is
displayed.
13. Log on by entering:
MPE XL:HELLO MANAGER.SYS;HIPRI
14. At the command interpreter prompt (:), start streaming and
spooling capabilities:
:STREAMS 10
:STARTSPOOL LP
15. Remove the system load tape and store it.
16. Set passwords for MANAGER.SYS,PUB by entering:
:ALTACCT SYS;PASS=password
:ALTUSER MANAGER;PASS=password
:ALTGROUP PUB;PASS=password
It is recommended that you set passwords for the following
accounts as well:
SUPPORT
TELESUP
HPPL85
HPPL89
HPPL96
This completes the first time installation of the MPE XL operating
system.
