Example
Termdsm is a utility providing various terminal oriented functions to
Customers and HP Service Representatives. It is provided to help
investigate and recover from problems associated with the DTS,
(Distributed Terminal Subsystem). The DTS is made up of one or more
DTCs (Distributed Terminal Controllers), which are units providing
terminal connections on one end, and are connected on the other to an
HP mainframe via an IEEE 802.3 Local Area Network (LAN) connection. In
addition to the DTCs, the subsystem includes the software from the
mainframe downloaded to the DTC, and software in the mainframe itself.
One of the functions of Termdsm are "Dump". This function allows the
user to dump the mainframe and DTC software associated with one
terminal ("port") on the DTC, or the entire DTC. The dump is written
to disc.
Termdsm may also be used to reset one port, a set of ports on the DTC
(one SIC), or the entire DTC, and in each case the associated
mainframe software.
Termdsm may be used to obtain status information from the DTC, either
for a particular port, or the entire DTC. Termdsm may be used to run
hardware diagnostics on a particular port, or the entire DTC. These
diagnostics also exercise the LAN between the DTC and mainframe, but
are not a LAN diagnostic. Please use the LAN diagnostic for this
purpose.
Finally, Termdsm will provide the user with a list of the DTCs
configured on that mainframe, their LAN address, and the user-
specified name.
Some commands need you to type in the ldev, port, SIC (Serial
Interface Card- a set of ports), or DTC number.
Ldevs are one number ("200" for example).
DTCs are also one number ("2"). For a list of all DTCs on this system,
enter DTC in response to the main prompt.
SICs are identified by two numbers, the DTC number first, then the
number of the SIC within that DTC.
For example, "2,3 means DTC number 2, and SIC number 3 in that DTC.
SICs are numbered from 0, and SIC 0 is in the bottom of the DTC.
Ports are identified with three numbers: the DTC, the SIC within the
DTC that has that port, and the port number on that SIC. For example,
4,3,7 means DTC number 4, SIC number three and port 7 on that SIC.
Ports are numbered from 0, and as you face the BACK, port 0 is
leftmost.
Each prompt asks you for the particular entity (ldev, DTC, SIC, or
port), and reminds you of how many parameters are necessary.
For example, the Reset prompt is:

To specify ldev 200, enter "L 200. To specify port 4 of SIC 3 of DTC
1, say "PO 1,3,4; DTC, then SIC, and finally port. To specify SIC 2 on
DTC 1, say "SI 1,2". To specify DTC 2, say "DT 2.
Not all commands have all choices. For example, the Status command
only has port or DTC. As in all cases, the prompt reminds you which
choices are available and how many parameters are necessary for that
choice.
Note: Reset and dump commands for a particular port or ldev act upon
the ldev and its associated port, regardless of whether the "port" or
ldev was specified. It is not necessary to specify both an ldev and
its port; one or the other is sufficient.
Likewise, reset SIC resets all ldevs associated with that SIC, and
reset/dump of a DTC resets all ldevs on that DTC.
After the above information is displayed, the major prompt will be
printed and you can enter another TermDSM command.
