RJE/XL Node Manager's Guide
Required System Environment
This section describes the software and hardware requirements for RJE/XL
on the HP 3000. It also describes the requirements for the remote IBM
processor with which RJE/XL will be communicating.
Software
The software that supports RJE/XL consists of operating system MPE XL 2.0
or a later version, the RJE/XL software, BSC link and RCS (RJE
Communications Subsystem). (RCS provides CS equivalent functionality.)
Hardware
RJE/XL requires a 900 Series HP 3000 computer system and a communications
interface. In addition, HP customers must arrange for the installation
of telephone lines and modems. Appendix B describes recommended modem
options.
Remote Processor. The remote processor can be any of the following:
* A host computer.
* An IBM 2780 or an IBM 3780.
* Another HP 3000 computer system that is also using the RJE/XL
subsystem.
Communications Interface. RJE/XL operation requires a Programmable
Serial Interface (PSI) Controller. Jobs or interactive sessions may run
concurrently on each installed communications interface. The number of
concurrent users is limited by the number of interfaces available.
Before invoking RJE/XL you can specify which interface you want to use
(hence which line is opened) by using an MPE file equation or RJLINE.
The transfer rate can be up to 64K bps.
Modems. For a list of the modems refer to appendix B, "System
Requirement Details."
Dedicated Remote Print Station. For a list of the equipment required to
use RJE/XL as a dedicated remote print station, refer to appendix B,
"System Requirement Details."
Autodial. For a list of the requirements for an autodial environment,
refer to Appendix B, "System Requirement Details."
