RJE/XL Node Manager's Guide

Configuration Problems

Configuration problems with RJE/XL can occur on both the HP 3000 as well
as the host.

HP 3000 Configuration Problems

Listed below are some configuration problems that can occur on a 900
Series HP 3000 computer.

 *  PSI interface card problems

    Ensure that you correctly configured the physical path field of the
    RJEConfiguration: Linkdata screen. Be sure to verify that the card
    is seated in the appropriate slot. The location of the interface
    card for the HP 3000 Series 930 is different from the location of the
    card for the HP 3000 Series 950.

 *  Configuration file name

    Remember when configuring RJE/XL, the configuration file can be named
    anything you prefer. However, once you decide to run RJE/XL, the
    program will look for a file named NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS.

 *  Incorrect parameters/link configuration file

    Once a node name has been selected, NMMGR displays the RJE
    Configuration: Linkdata screen. This screen allows the user to
    define that information that is specific to the BSC protocol.

    Some of the values that are often entered incorrectly are listed
    below:

     * Verify the correct transmission mode between the HP system and
        the host (full or half duplex).

     * Verify the line type (leased or switched line).

     * Verify that the phone numbers in the phone data screen correlate
        with those listed on the host.

     * Verify that the remote IDs, if used in the RJE Configuration:
        RemoteID screen, correlate with those listed on the host.

 *  Linecode transmission

    Ensure that the communications link between RJE/XL and the remote
    processor has been defined correctly. While file transmission with
    the HP 3000 is generally done in ASCII mode, the transfer of
    information to the host must be done in EBCDIC. This must be defined
    or passed as a parameter in the RJLINE command.

IBM Host Configuration Problems

Listed below are some configuration problems that can occur on the host.

 * Remote IDs associated with or assigned to the link name will not be
    recognized by the host.

 * User is attempting to sign on to the host with a logon ID that is
    already in use.

 * User fails to initiate return of all the output that the host wishes
    to send back following job submittal. Refer to Appendix D in this
    manual for more detail on IBM host configuration problems.
